Job Overview:
We are seeking a passionate and mission driven teacher to join our team. San Miguel School Chicago is an independent Lasallian middle school educating students in grades 6-8 in the Back of the Yards neighborhood. Our mission at San Miguel School Chicago is to transform the lives of our students, their families, and community through education, inspiring their hearts and minds. As a member of the San Miguel Chicago faculty, you will work collaboratively in a grade level team of three, in a self-contained classroom. As a Science Teacher you will be responsible for teaching students in grades 6-8th , fostering their love for science, and helping them develop strong communication and critical thinking skills. Aligned to standards, you will teach students various aspects of middle science, including earth, physical, life, and health sciences in a multi-ability classroom. The ideal candidate is bilingual in English and Spanish possessing strong knowledge of adolescent development.
Duties
- work collaboratively as a member of a grade-level team, and teach mutually agreed upon individual courses and take lead on shared team responsibilities such as Reading, Enrichment, Lunch/Recess, and Homeroom
- provide instruction in one or more content course(s) such as Science while maintaining a written record of year long plans, unit plans, and daily lesson plans based on standards based instruction
- Implement the G Suite for Education and Google Classroom in the classroom using Chromebooks
- adhere to and support all school policies as set forth in the Faculty and Staff Handbook, Parent-Student Handbook, and Crisis and Emergency Management Plan including regular evaluation and reporting on student academic progress
- provide multiple experiential learning experiences, working with a grade level teaching team to plan and chaperone grade-level field trips and off-campus learning experiences, and be willing to drive school vehicles for field trips and games
- attend and actively participate in all orientations, staff meetings, professional development in-service opportunities, grade-level team meetings, parent meetings, parent-teacher-student conferences
- engage in personal professional goal-setting and evaluation
- participate in teacher mentoring including formal and informal classroom observations and processing
- responsibilities and supervision duties as assigned, including but not limited to: substitute teaching, lunch duty, hallway/stairwell/parking lot supervision, and prayer leadership
- implement a classroom management plan as a grade-level team that includes agreed upon schedules, procedures, and BIST practices
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree preferably in education
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to effectively manage a classroom and engage students in the learning process
- Experience in lesson planning and curriculum development
- Proficiency in using technology for instructional purposes
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
