Small Engine & Fleet Mechanic
Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled and dependable Small Engine & Fleet Mechanic to join our team. This position is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a variety of vehicles, trailers, and landscaping equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation. The ideal candidate will have experience working on automotive systems as well as small engines and commercial equipment including STIHL, Echo, Kubota, John Deere, and similar brands.
This role is critical to keeping our fleet and equipment operating efficiently while minimizing downtime and repair costs through preventative maintenance and timely repairs.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and repairs on company vehicles, trailers, and equipment.
- Diagnose and repair gasoline and diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, fuel systems, and drivetrain components.
- Maintain and repair commercial landscaping equipment including:
- String trimmers
- Edgers
- Hedge trimmers
- Chainsaws
- Blowers
- Zero-turn mowers
- Walk-behind mowers
- Stand-on mowers
- Service and repair equipment from manufacturers including STIHL, Echo, Kubota, John Deere, Exmark, Scag, Toro, and similar brands.
- Perform oil changes, filter replacements, tune-ups, brake repairs, battery replacements, tire repairs, and other preventative maintenance tasks.
- Troubleshoot and repair electrical issues, charging systems, starters, alternators, and wiring problems.
- Diagnose hydraulic system failures and perform repairs on pumps, hoses, cylinders, and related components.
- Maintain accurate service records, maintenance logs, and repair documentation.
- Order parts and maintain inventory of commonly used repair components and shop supplies.
- Conduct safety inspections to ensure all vehicles and equipment meet company and manufacturer standards.
- Respond quickly to equipment breakdowns in the field when necessary.
- Keep shop areas organized, clean, and compliant with safety regulations.
- Recommend equipment replacement or major repairs when appropriate.
Experience & Qualifications
- Proven experience as an automotive mechanic, diesel mechanic, small engine mechanic, fleet mechanic, or equipment technician.
- Strong knowledge of small engine repair and maintenance.
- Experience working on commercial landscaping equipment preferred.
- Familiarity with STIHL, Echo, Kubota, John Deere, Toro, Scag, Exmark, or similar equipment brands.
- Ability to diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, fuel, and electrical system failures.
- Experience using diagnostic tools, multimeters, scanners, and specialty repair equipment.
- Ability to read service manuals, schematics, and technical documentation.
- Welding and fabrication experience is a plus.
- Valid driver's license required.
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and work in various weather conditions.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and efficiently.
