Job Summary:
The Traffic Control Superintendent is responsible for overseeing and coordinating traffic control activities on active construction projects throughout the state of Georgia. This position ensures work zone safety, compliance with GDOT and MUTCD guidelines, and effective management of traffic control crews and subcontractors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and direct traffic control operations on GDOT and municipal projects
- Interpret and implement traffic control plans (TCPs) according to GDOT specifications
- Ensure setup, maintenance, and removal of work zone signage, barricades, and flagging operations
- Conduct daily safety meetings, inspections, and audits on active job sites
- Maintain communication with project managers, superintendents, GDOT inspectors, and law enforcement
- Train and mentor flaggers and crew members in proper work zone procedures
- Document incidents, inspections, and field adjustments; maintain accurate reports
- Respond quickly to emergencies, lane closures, or changes in traffic patterns
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum 6 years of traffic control experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role
- In-depth knowledge of GDOT traffic control standards and MUTCD guidelines
- Valid ATSSA Traffic Control Supervisor (TCS) certification or GDOT-approved equivalent
- Valid Georgia driver’s license with clean driving record
- Proven ability to lead and coordinate multiple crews across various sites
- Strong communication, documentation, and time management skills
- Ability to work outdoors in variable weather conditions and high-traffic areas
