Position Summary
The Student Comp/Opts Work-Study provides technical support to the University of Houston-Downtown (UHD) faculty and Staff by assisting with the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and relocation of computer hardware and peripheral equipment. This position delivers excellent customer service while supporting daily IT operations, technology deployments, and campus events.
Duties
- Responds to emails and tickets regarding technical equipment problems.
- Troubleshoots and repairs computers, printers, and peripheral equipment.
- Moves and relocates computer equipment throughout the university.
- Completes all paperwork necessary for equipment moves, inventory updates, and department invoices.
- Provides onsite support and IT equipment setups for other departments' events and for outside vendors when requested.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Have basic computer hardware troubleshooting knowledge.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to operate tools and peripheral equipment.
- Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks.
- Ability to move items up to 50 lbs.
Qualifications
- Must be a current student at UHD.
- Must be able to work a flexible working schedule, including weekends.
- Prefer prior customer service-related experience.
- Preference will be given to students who are eligible for and participating in the Federal Work-Study at UHD.
