About the Position
Ashbourne Farms is seeking an experienced, dependable, and hardworking Travel Groom to join our equine team. This is a full-time position supporting our horses and rider at home and while traveling between our Kentucky, Florida, and Wyoming locations.
The position will involve travel for 3-day eventing competitions, including dressage, show jumping, and cross-country, as well as daily horse care, conditioning, transportation, and barn management.
We are looking for someone who takes pride in excellent horse care, maintains a clean and organized barn, and understands the responsibility that comes with caring for high-level sport horses.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide daily, high-quality care for horses before, during, and after competition.
- Travel with horses to events and between Kentucky, Florida, and Wyoming.
- Assist with preparation and care for horses competing in dressage, show jumping, and cross-country.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and exceptionally tidy barn and work environment.
- Groom, tack, bathe, hand-walk, exercise, and otherwise assist with daily horse care.
- Safely load, unload, and transport horses.
- Drive trucks and horse trailers confidently and responsibly.
- Assist with competition-day preparation and post-competition care.
- Monitor horses closely and communicate any concerns regarding health, behavior, or performance.
- Assist with therapeutic and recovery equipment, including water treadmill, Theraplate, and MagnaWave.
- Maintain a consistent schedule and high standard of care regardless of location.
- Work closely with the equine team to ensure horses receive consistent care and attention.
Qualifications
Required:
- Significant professional experience working with horses.
- Strong riding experience and confidence around experienced sport horses.
- Ability to safely and confidently handle horses in a variety of situations.
- Experience driving trucks and horse trailers with horses on board.
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively.
- Strong work ethic and excellent attention to detail.
- Honest, dependable, respectful, and responsible.
- Strong understanding of proper horse care and stable management.
- Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a team.
Preferred:
- Experience with eventing, dressage, or show jumping.
- Experience with water treadmills, Theraplate, MagnaWave, or other equine rehabilitation/recovery equipment.
- Experience traveling to and working at horse shows and competitions.
- Willingness to learn additional therapeutic and conditioning techniques.
Work Schedule
This is a full-time position, generally requiring 5–6 days per week, with a schedule that will vary based on horse care, travel, competitions, and the needs of the equine program.
Flexibility is essential. Competition and travel schedules may require longer days, weekends, and time away from home.
