This role supports manufacturing operations in a defense-related environment by performing high-quality MIG welding and fabrication of metal fencing systems and related products. You will work with a variety of metals, follow detailed blueprints and welding symbols, and ensure all work meets strict quality and safety standards. The position requires a detail-oriented, safety-focused welder who takes pride in producing precise and durable welds in a fast-paced fabrication shop.
Responsibilities-
Perform MIG welding on carbon steel, galvanized steel, stainless steel, and aluminum components.

Fabricate metal components for fencing, barriers, gates, frames, and similar structural products.

Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and welding symbols to complete fabrication tasks accurately.

Set up and operate welding equipment, hand tools, grinders, and fabrication machinery safely and efficiently.

Measure, cut, fit, and assemble metal parts to precise specifications and tolerances.

Inspect completed welds for quality, strength, and appearance, ensuring they meet defense and internal standards.

Maintain compliance with defense industry quality standards, safety requirements, and production documentation.

Perform minor maintenance on welding and fabrication equipment to keep it in proper working condition.

Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in the metal fabrication shop.

Collaborate with fabrication, quality, and production teams to meet build schedules and production targets.
Essential Skills-
Proficiency in MIG welding on carbon steel, galvanized steel, stainless steel, and aluminum.

Hands-on experience with metal fabrication, including bending, cutting, fitting, and assembling components.

Ability to read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and welding symbols accurately.

Experience working with sheet metal and structural metal components.

Skilled in using grinders, hand tools, and fabrication machinery in a metal fabrication environment.

Knowledge of flux core welding processes.

Ability to perform accurate measurements and maintain tight tolerances during fabrication.

Familiarity with quality inspections and documentation requirements in a manufacturing setting.

Strong focus on safety and adherence to established safety procedures and standards.

Ability to work collaboratively with fabrication, quality, and production teams.
Additional Skills & Qualifications-
Experience manufacturing products for the defense or government contracting industry.

Welding certifications such as AWS or equivalent credentials.

Experience fabricating fencing systems, gates, or structural frames.

Experience operating forklifts or overhead cranes in a shop environment.

Comfort working with a variety of metals, including sheet metal and structural components.

Work Environment
The role is based in a metal fabrication shop that is not climate controlled, so temperatures vary with the seasons—cold in the winter and hot in the summer. The facility uses fans and bay doors to promote airflow throughout the workspace. You will work around welding equipment, grinders, fabrication machinery, and material handling equipment such as forklifts or overhead cranes. The environment is hands-on, industrial, and production-focused, requiring appropriate shop attire and adherence to safety gear and protective equipment standards.

This is a Contract position based out of Fredericksburg, VA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $32.00/hr.
