Position Summary
Westerly School is seeking dependable, detail-oriented Evening Custodians to help maintain
a clean, safe, and welcoming campus environment for students, faculty, and families. This
role is responsible for nightly cleaning and custodial support across classrooms, offices,
restrooms, and shared campus spaces.
The ideal candidate takes pride in their work, works independently, communicates
professionally, and contributes positively to a school community centered around care,
professionalism, and student wellbeing.
Schedule
● Part-time, July 1, 2026 Start date, if not earlier.
● Approximately 4 hours per evening
● Monday–Friday
● Evening shift after school hours
● Occasional flexibility for school events or summer deep cleaning
Essential Responsibilities
● Clean and sanitize classrooms, offices, restrooms, and common areas
● Vacuum, sweep, mop, and dust assigned campus spaces
● Empty trash and recycling bins
● Refill restroom and cleaning supplies
● Clean windows, doors, desks, counters, and touchpoints
● Assist with event setup and breakdown as needed
● Monitor campus cleanliness and report maintenance concerns
● Follow campus safety and security procedures
● Assist with locking/unlocking campus areas when assigned
● Support summer deep-cleaning projects and campus resets
● Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
● Previous custodial or facilities experience preferred
● School or childcare environment experience is a plus
● Ability to work independently and efficiently
● Strong attention to detail and reliability
● Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and perform physical tasks throughout the shift
● Professional communication and teamwork skills
● Must pass required background checks and employment clearances
Preferred Skills
● Floor care experience (buffing, stripping, waxing)
● Knowledge of safe cleaning chemical usage
● Experience with campus security or alarm procedures
Compensation & Benefits
● Competitive hourly compensation based on experience
● Rate: $20/hour
● Paid sick leave in accordance with California law
● Opportunities for additional summer hours and event support
● 3 days paid during Thanksgiving break, 5 days paid during Winter break
