Our client is a leading industrial manufacturing company with an established global presence across Asia, Europe, the Americas, and the Middle East.
As part of its continued expansion in the United States, the company is establishing a new warehouse in Michigan and is seeking a Import Specialist to support customs clearance, logistics coordination, inventory management, and general office operations.
Position Summary
The primary responsibility of this role is to manage U.S. import customs clearance for shipments arriving from Asia, including documentation preparation and coordination with customs brokers and freight forwarders.
This position will work with customs brokers, freight forwarders, carriers, warehouse partners, and internal teams to ensure shipments are properly documented, cleared, delivered, received, and recorded.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in U.S. customs clearance, import logistics, distribution, and warehouse operations.
Key Responsibilities
Customs Clearance and Import Coordination
- Coordinate customs clearance for products shipped from China to the United States
- Prepare, collect, review, and organize customs and shipping documentation
- Work with customs brokers and internal teams to support accurate and timely import declarations
- Respond to documentation requests and assist with customs reviews or inspections
- Identify and resolve clearance delays, missing documents, and shipment discrepancies
- Maintain accurate import and customs clearance records
Logistics Coordination
- Coordinate with freight forwarders, carriers, customs brokers, and logistics providers
- Track international and domestic shipments through final delivery
- Monitor shipment schedules and provide timely status updates
- Follow up on delayed, damaged, or incomplete shipments
- Review shipping documents, delivery records, and logistics invoices when required
Administrative Support
- Support basic administrative activities for the Michigan office
- Coordinate with local vendors and service providers
- Organize operational documents, invoices, and records
- Assist with purchasing office and warehouse supplies
- Provide general operational support as needed
Required Qualifications
- Experience in import/export logistics, customs clearance, freight forwarding, distribution, or warehouse operations
- Working knowledge of U.S. customs clearance procedures and import documentation
- Experience coordinating with customs brokers, freight forwarders, carriers, or third-party logistics providers
- Experience with inventory management, receiving, shipping, and warehouse recordkeeping
- Ability to work independently in a growing business environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience handling products or equipment imported from Asia
- Experience in manufacturing, industrial equipment, electronics, or another B2B environment
- Familiarity with warehouse or inventory management systems
- Experience establishing or improving warehouse processes
- Mandarin Chinese language skills are a plus but not required

Pay: $60,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
