Job Description
An established, fee-only registered investment advisory firm in Central New Jersey is seeking an experienced investment professional to lead its investment research function. This individual will play a key leadership role in the development, oversight, and evolution of the firm's investment strategies and portfolio construction process.
The successful candidate will be responsible for directing investment research efforts across public equities, fixed income, ETFs, mutual funds, and alternative investments while helping guide strategic asset allocation decisions and supporting the firm's investment committee. In addition, the candidate will mentor junior analysts, contribute to thought leadership and client communications, and help shape the future direction of the firm's investment platform.
This role is ideal for a highly analytical investment professional who combines strong research capabilities with leadership skills, intellectual curiosity, sound judgment, and excellent communication abilities.
Primary Responsibilities
Investment Leadership & Research
- Lead the firm's investment research process and help establish research priorities.
- Conduct and oversee fundamental, quantitative, and macroeconomic research across asset classes.
- Evaluate individual securities, ETFs, mutual funds, private investments, and alternative asset strategies.
- Present investment recommendations and strategic insights to the investment committee.
- Monitor portfolio positioning, asset allocation, and risk exposures across client portfolios.
- Develop and maintain investment reports, market commentary, and research publications.
- Stay informed on economic developments, market trends, industry developments, and regulatory changes affecting investments.
Portfolio Strategy
- Assist in the design, implementation, and ongoing refinement of investment strategies and model portfolios.
- Evaluate new portfolio construction techniques, investment vehicles, and research methodologies.
- Participate in due diligence efforts for external managers and alternative investment opportunities.
- Support strategic decision-making related to asset allocation, income-oriented strategies, and risk management.
Team Leadership
- Mentor and develop junior research professionals.
- Foster a culture of intellectual curiosity, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Help establish research standards, workflows, and best practices.
- Serve as a senior resource for investment-related questions from advisors and other staff members.
Client & Business Support
- Participate in client meetings when appropriate to discuss investment strategy and market outlook.
- Assist advisors by addressing complex investment-related questions.
- Contribute to written market updates, commentary, white papers, and educational content.
- Represent the firm's investment philosophy professionally with clients, prospects, and industry contacts.
Ideal Candidate Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year institution.
- 8+ years of professional investment research, portfolio management, or institutional investment experience.
- Deep understanding of equities, fixed income, ETFs, mutual funds, and portfolio construction.
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Ability to synthesize complex investment topics into clear and actionable recommendations.
- Demonstrated leadership, project management, and organizational abilities.
Preferred
- CFA® charterholder strongly preferred.
- Advanced degree in finance, economics, business, or related field.
- Experience serving on an investment committee or similar decision-making body.
- Experience evaluating alternative investments, including private credit, private equity, real estate, and hedge fund strategies.
- Experience using Bloomberg Terminal and other institutional research platforms.
- Familiarity with portfolio management, trading, CRM, and reporting systems.
- Experience mentoring analysts or leading research teams.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $125,000.00 - $200,000.00 per year
