A Manual Grinder Machine Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining grinding machines used on finish metal parts according to technical drawings and specifications. This job requires strong attention to detail, knowledge of precision measuring tools, and a commitment to safety.
Key responsibilities
- Machine operation: Set up and operate manual grinding machines to grind, dynafile, or polish materials, ensuring the final product meets all specifications. This may involve operating different types of grinders, such as surface, cylindrical, or hand tools.
- Measurement and inspection: Use precision measuring instruments, such as micrometers, calipers, and preset gauges, to inspect and verify the dimensions and tolerances of finished parts.
- Blueprint interpretation: Read and interpret blueprints, job orders, and technical drawings to determine product specifications, operational sequences, and the correct grinding speeds and feed rates.
- Tooling and material management: Select and mount appropriate grinding wheels, fixtures, and holding devices. Remove and replace worn grinding wheels as needed.
- Maintenance and troubleshooting: Perform routine maintenance on machinery and troubleshoot operational issues. For example, some may clean the grinder daily or perform light maintenance on plant equipment.
- Quality control: Perform first-piece inspections before a production run to ensure it is within tolerances. Continuously monitor the machine during operation to ensure a proper finish.
