Role Description
TFP Education is seeking experienced U.S. History assessment item writers for part-time, remote contract work. Candidates should have experience developing college-level, AP-style assessment items and a strong understanding of historical thinking skills and evidence-based assessment design.
This position involves developing original assessment content that reflects the rigor and style of college-level history assessments. The work is independently developed and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the College Board.
Responsibilities include:
- Writing, reviewing, and revising high-quality U.S. History assessment items (multiple-choice, constructed response, technology-enhanced items, etc.) modeled after the rigor and historical reasoning emphasized in AP-level assessments.
- Ensuring all content aligns with state and national standards
- Adhering to project-specific guidelines for rigor, readability, and grade-level appropriateness.
- Providing rationales, distractor analyses, and answer keys for assessment items.
- Collaborating with content leads and editors to refine assessment content.
- Meeting deadlines and quality expectations for assigned projects.
Qualifications
- Experience as a U.S. History item writer (required). Previous assessment development experience is required.
- Familiarity with historical thinking skills, document analysis, and evidence-based assessment design.
- Strong knowledge of history standards, curriculum, and assessment best practices.
- Exceptional writing and editing skills, with a focus on clarity, grammar, and academic language.
- Ability to adapt writing style to various grade levels and assessment needs.
- High attention to detail and strong analytical thinking.
- Bachelor's degree in History, Education, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- Experience as an educator, curriculum specialist, or assessment developer.
Ideal candidates have experience developing large-scale assessments for state testing programs, college-level coursework, Advanced Placement®-style assessments, curriculum publishers, or educational organizations.
