Lockheed Martin Aeronautics is a leader in the small Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) field and is seeking a talented Mechanical Design Engineer to join its engineering team. The LM UAS engineering team is a multi-disciplinary group with mechanical, electrical, software and systems expertise. The team develops new products and solutions while also supporting current products. You will play an integral part in expanding the LM portfolio of platforms and programs.
A successful candidate will apply technical expertise in developing solutions to Unmanned Aircraft Systems design and testing problems. Responsibilities for this position may include:
- Develop, test, and validate new and modified UAS designs
- Troubleshoot system malfunctions to determine root cause and corrective action
- Create and maintain 3-D CATIA models, assemblies and installations, system requirements, interface/supplier control drawings, performance specifications, system checkout procedures and statements of work
- Create system requirements, trade studies, sub-component and flight test plans
- Coordinate with suppliers, internal and external integrated product teams, management and the customer
- Support manufacturing, ground/flight test and customer operating locations
Occasional travel may be required.
High school diploma and 1+ years of relevant professional electrical experience
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering (or related discipline) and 1 year relevant professional experience OR equivalent training and experience
Experience in CAD/CAM tools such as Catia/3DX, Creo, or Solidworks
Extensive laboratory experience using common engineering tools
Proficiency in Visio, Excel, Word, and Mathcad
Experience with configuration management tool(s) such as Enterprise Product Data Management (EPDM)
Experience with and firm understanding of principles pertinent to small UAS or RC aircraft, their use cases, and operating environments and how those affect electrical design
Desire to assume ownership of tasks and drive to closure quickly and efficiently
