Position Summary
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Purchasing & Inventory Specialist to support our machine shop specializing in the manufacturing, repair, and refurbishment of steam turbines and rotating equipment. This position is responsible for procuring materials and outside services while maintaining accurate inventory levels to ensure production schedules are met efficiently.
The ideal candidate has experience in manufacturing purchasing, inventory management, and understands the demands of a precision machining environment. This individual will work closely with engineering, production, quality, and project management to ensure the right materials are available at the right time while minimizing inventory costs.
Key Responsibilities
Purchasing
- Source and purchase raw materials including alloy steels, stainless steels, specialty metals, castings, forgings, bearings, seals, fasteners, tooling, and industrial supplies.
- Procure outside services such as heat treating, coatings, and specialty repairs.
- Solicit quotations, compare pricing, negotiate costs and delivery schedules, and issue purchase orders.
- Monitor supplier performance and expedite critical orders to maintain production schedules.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with qualified vendors.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality or delivery.
Inventory Management
- Maintain accurate inventory records using the company's ERP/MRP system.
- Monitor inventory levels and replenish stock based on production requirements and usage trends.
- Receive, inspect, and verify incoming materials against purchase orders and packing slips.
- Coordinate material movement between receiving, stockroom, and production.
- Perform cycle counts and assist with annual physical inventories.
- Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies.
- Organize stockrooms to promote efficiency, accuracy, and safe material handling.
- Track high-value materials and critical spare components.
Collaboration
- Coordinate with Engineering and Production to understand material requirements for upcoming projects.
- Communicate supplier lead times and potential shortages to project managers.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to purchasing, inventory accuracy, and material flow.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, Manufacturing, or a related field is preferred.
- 3+ years of purchasing and/or inventory experience in a manufacturing or machine shop environment.
- MUST have mechanical knowledge (automotive and/or turbine related)
- Experience with JobBOSS inventory system.
- Understanding of machining materials, industrial hardware, and manufacturing processes.
- Ability to read engineering drawings and material specifications is preferred.
- Strong negotiation, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Pay: $21.00 - $23.00 per hour
