Barista
Sonoma Cheese Factory and Sonoma's Best is seeking a full-time Barista to join our team. For over 100 years, this historic location has been a favorite spot for locals to find carefully curated wine, delicious deli options, and Sonoma-inspired merchandise and accessories. Sonoma’s Best is under new management and we are excited to re-establish ourselves as the must-stop specialty food destination in Sonoma.
What does a Barista do? “Baristas are responsible for making quality beverages, preparing food orders, working the cash register, bussing tables, cleaning and stocking the store. Baristas must do all of these tasks quickly and efficiently while also making sure to form good customer relationships. Baristas are part artisans, part town mayor, part therapist, part bartender and definitively an important cornerstone of the regular customers life."
Job Requirements:
- Provide outstanding customer service, and create specialty coffee beverages in a high paced environment.
- Open and close the coffee shop, completing all necessary tasks and checklists.
- Assist with all Deli counter operations as the Manager sees fit, including working the occasional shift to cross-train and gain proficiency.
- Participate in marketing initiatives, including photoshoots and videography.
- Follow all company safety and security policies and procedures.
- Ensure freshness of all coffee, tea and baked goods and maintain date codes.
- Identify and manage shrink and waste issues.
- Maintain clean and sanitary work areas, equipment, and tools.
- Keep equipment, utensils, counters, refrigerators, and storage areas clean and orderly.
- Speak with staff members and customers using clear and professional language.
- Maintain positive culture within the coffee shop, and market as a whole.
- Partner with the Chefs, General Manager, and executive leadership team on projects and tasks associated with the coffee and deli department.
- Must be dependable and punctual.
- Must be physically able to walk without assistance on various surfaces (including stairs) for extended periods of time.
- Ability to repetitively lift objects weighing up to 30 lbs; Ability to work in temperatures as low as 28 degrees.
- Properly handle, prepare, transport and store products; ensuring food and human safety practices are strictly adhered to.
- Must possess excellent organizational skills and prioritize requests while managing interruptions.
- Have a positive attitude, be polite, energetic and a willing learner.
- Must be legally able to work in the United States.
You must be motivated and able to multi-task and do a variety of roles. Sonoma’s Best has a wine shop, specialty market, deli and coffee shop. From cutting and wrapping cheese, answering the phone, preparing wholesale orders, keeping the place clean and tidy, to assisting with receiving deliveries or giving a hand to the kitchen crew, there is a lot happening every day. Most importantly, you must be capable and enjoy interacting with customers as our customer service is the most important aspect of our work.
