Position Title: Assistant Clinical Director (PATH) Department/Program: Veterans Services of the Carolinas (VSC) Reports To: Program Director-Outreach-HOPE/PATH, TCL and VTC
Location: Field based throughout North Carolina
FLSA Status: Exempt
Work Schedule: Full-time position requiring flexibility, including occasional evenings, weekends, travel, crisis response activities, community meetings, and outreach coordination efforts as needed.
Compensation: Annual salary commensurate with education and experience.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Assistant Clinical Director – PATH provides clinical leadership and behavioral health oversight for the Projects for Assistance in Transition from Homelessness (PATH) program. This position supports outreach teams serving individuals experiencing homelessness who have serious mental illness or co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. The Assistant Clinical Director promotes evidence-based behavioral health practices, crisis intervention, recovery-oriented care, and effective coordination with community behavioral health providers to improve participant engagement, treatment access, and housing stability.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Clinical Leadership & PATH Services
Provide clinical consultation for participants with serious mental illness and co-occurring disorders.
Support implementation of PATH program objectives and evidence-based behavioral health practices.
Participate in interdisciplinary case consultation and participant care planning.
Promote participant engagement in treatment, recovery, and community integration.
Crisis Intervention & Behavioral Health Coordination
Provide consultation regarding psychiatric crises, de-escalation, suicide risk, and behavioral health emergencies.
Assist outreach staff with complex participant situations.
Coordinate referrals to community behavioral health providers, psychiatric services, substance use treatment, healthcare providers, and housing resources.
Support continuity of care throughout participant engagement and transition.
Staff Development & Clinical Quality
Train outreach staff regarding serious mental illness, trauma-informed care, recovery principles, motivational interviewing, crisis response, ethics, and documentation.
Mentor staff in participant engagement strategies and behavioral health best practices.
Promote clinical quality and continuous improvement.
Grant Compliance & Community Collaboration
Support compliance with PATH grant requirements, behavioral health standards, documentation requirements, and confidentiality regulations.
Monitor clinical documentation and quality assurance activities.
Collaborate with behavioral health agencies, healthcare providers, community organizations, and Continuums of Care to strengthen coordinated care.
Team Collaboration & Ministry Support
Collaborate with Program Directors, outreach teams, peer support specialists, care coordinators, and community partners.
Participate in ministry initiatives, staff meetings, training, and strategic planning.

SUCCESS FACTORS
Advanced clinical expertise in serious mental illness and community behavioral health.

QUALIFICATIONS
Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy, or another behavioral health discipline required.
Current unrestricted North Carolina clinical licensure (LCSW, LCMHC, LMFT, or equivalent) required.
Experience working with individuals experiencing serious mental illness, co-occurring disorders, homelessness, or community behavioral health services preferred.
Experience providing clinical supervision or behavioral health consultation preferred.
Strong documentation and computer skills required.
Valid North Carolina driver's license and reliable transportation required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in office, community, healthcare, shelter, residential, and outreach environments throughout Western North Carolina. Regular travel is required. Responsibilities include computer use, attendance at meetings, prolonged sitting, standing, walking, and occasional exposure to individuals experiencing serious mental illness, homelessness, substance use disorders, and behavioral health crises.
MENTAL DEMANDS
Must be able to manage multiple clinical priorities, behavioral health consultations, crisis situations, documentation requirements, and interdisciplinary coordination simultaneously. Requires sound clinical judgment, emotional resilience, effective communication, conflict resolution, and trauma-informed decision-making while serving individuals with serious mental illness and complex behavioral health needs.

Pay: $55,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
