SUMMARY: The Medical Technologist is responsible for performing all procedures processed at the InterMed Lab. Must be able to understand all necessary functions of the LIS and EMR systems.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Reads and understands all procedures in department procedure manuals.
- Familiar with all equipment and instruments used in the department once trained and competent.
- Assists in/perform weekly and monthly maintenance procedures.
- Understands all necessary functions with LIS and EMR systems.
- Backs up phlebotomist/specimen processor when necessary.
- Prepares pertinent reagents according to laboratory standard procedures.
- Performs tests as described in procedure manual, under the direction of the manager, in the time allotted.
- Maintains records which demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples.
- Performs all calibration and quality control procedures.
- Aware of supply levels and orders supplies as directed.
- Reports patient results as instructed by the Lab Coordinator.
- Keeps work area and equipment clean and organized.
- Assists the manager, when directed, in evaluation of test results.
- Assists the manager, when directed, in trouble shooting of equipment and procedures.
- Assists the manager, when directed, in the onboarding and training of new personnel.
- Follows all OSHA regulations as applied to InterMed.
- Assist with quality improvement initiatives at the direction of the Lab Coordinator
- Maintains strict confidentiality in alignment with HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability) guidelines and InterMed policies.
- Perform other duties to support the mission, vision and values of InterMed.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution
OR
- Associate degree in laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution
OR
- Equivalent laboratory training and experience meeting the requirements defined in CLIA regulation 42CFR493.1489(b)(3)(ii)
Experience:
- Previous Medical Technologist experience preferred
- Proven ability to effectively multitask and prioritize multiple assignments
License/Certifications:
- ASCP certification (MT, MLS, or MLT) or ability to obtain certification within 6 months from date of hire
OR
- HEW Certification
- Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 6 weeks of hire
