Who We Are:
St. Nick's Alliance, a North Brooklyn-based community organization, seeks to transform the lives of low- and moderate-income people through employment, education, housing, elder care, and social services. We do this by delivering impactful services with measurable outcomes to children, adults, and the elderly. As a civic anchor, we carry out this mission within the context of building a sustainable community for all people through the arts, environmental advocacy, and urban planning.
We are currently seeking a Per Diem Minibus Driver for our Swinging Sixties Older Adult Center located at 211 Ainslie Street in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
What You’ll Do:
As the program’s Minibus Driver, you will provide support for the older adult center’s operations and services for the community’s senior residents. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
- Safely transport senior citizens and disabled persons to and from various scheduled destinations.
- Assist seniors on and off the bus.
- Provide safe transportation by adhering to all safety rules of the road and exercising appropriate driving judgment, including checking that all individuals on the vehicle are utilizing seat belts.
- Transport groups of senior citizens on local trips as scheduled.
- Transport materials for and between agency locations as needed.
- Provide strong customer satisfaction through respectful, caring interaction with senior participants.
- Maintain program vehicle(s) in clean and good working order.
- Inspect vehicle daily and report any operational or structural defects to the supervisor immediately.
- Oversee routine maintenance, repair, and cleaning of vehicle (fueling, oil changes, tire rotation/change, brakes, etc.), minimizing disruption of services to seniors while doing so.
- Maintain a daily ridership record.
- Attend required staff meetings and in-service training.
- Other duties as assigned for the proper and efficient running of the program.
What We Are Looking For:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to read, write, and speak English and Spanish for a bilingual client population
- Minimum of 2 years’ driving experience
- Clean, valid NYS Driver's License / CDL required
- Successfully pass a drug screen test and background check.
- Calm, warm demeanor with superior interpersonal skills
- CPR/AED-certified or willing to obtain certification within 3 months of hire
