Scripps Mercy Surgery Pavilion is a multi-specialty, non-emergency ambulatory surgery center located in San Diego. We are looking for a full-time Registered Nurse with experience in the operating room. Our ideal candidate will be motivated and a team player for our fast-paced environment. We operate Monday thru Friday, no weekends, and no holidays!
The OR Nurse will be responsible for patient care during surgical procedures and indirectly responsible through coordination and information sharing of both pre-op and post-op care.
Essential Responsibilities:
· Consults and coordinates with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement, or evaluate patients undergoing surgical or invasive procedures.
· Collaborates with surgeons, surgical technologists, pre-operative, and post-operative nurses, and other healthcare personnel to create comprehensive patient care from pre- to post-op.
· Performs circulating functions, such as monitoring, recording, and managing overall nursing care of patients before, during, and after surgery.
· Acts as an advocate for the patient before, during, and after surgery.
· Prepares rooms, sterile instruments, equipment, or supplies and ensures that stock of supplies is maintained.
· Verifies identity of patient and surgical location prior to surgery.
· Updates patient medical records before, during, and after surgery.
· Administers minor treatments as addressed on competency list.
· Monitors patient’s comfort and alleviates anxiety during procedures.
· Maintains and demonstrates current skills and knowledge of medication administration and effects; patient assessment, arrhythmia detection, patient teaching, emotional/social support of patients and families, and other needed clinical outcomes.
· Advises the surgical team to potential harm to the patient during surgery.
· Functions as a team member during times of stress and crisis situations.
· Ensure the surgical team follows aseptic techniques and guidelines to prevent surgical site infections.
· Follows OSHA guidelines for blood borne pathogens and body fluids and communicable disease.
· Follows AORN standards for care of the perioperative patient.
· Provides pre- and post-operative education to patients and their families.
· Assists anesthesia during patient intubation and extubation during surgery.
· Sets up and uses surgical patient care equipment.
· Escorts the patient to the recovery room post-operation.
· Cleans the operating room post-operation.
· Ensures all countable items are accounted for and documented as such.
· Directs or supervises less-skilled nursing or healthcare personnel.
· Knows and adheres to policies and procedures.
