Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and energetic Shelter Monitor to join our team and ensure the safety, well-being, and smooth operation of our shelter facilities. In this vital role, you will oversee daily shelter activities, support residents from diverse backgrounds, and maintain a secure environment for all. Responsibilities
- Supervise shelter residents, ensuring adherence to house rules and safety guidelines
- Conduct intake assessments and facilitate resident onboarding processes
- Provide crisis intervention and conflict management to de-escalate tense situations
- Support residents with behavioral health, addiction counseling, and case management needs
- Maintain resident confidentiality while documenting incidents, progress notes, and data collection using Microsoft Office tools
- Assist with medication administration, first aid, CPR, manual handling, and other safety procedures
- Collaborate with social workers, mental health professionals, and community agencies to coordinate care and resources
- Implement behavior management strategies to promote a respectful and supportive environment
- Conduct security checks, monitor CCTV footage, and ensure physical safety through manual handling when necessary
- Support youth and families by facilitating communication and engagement activities
Experience
Candidates should possess supervising experience within shelter or social service settings, with a strong understanding of working with high-risk populations. Prior experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness or substance use disorders is highly valued. Demonstrated skills in conflict management, crisis intervention, de-escalation techniques, and behavioral health support are essential. Familiarity with data entry, filing systems, and client communication is required for effective record keeping. Experience working with culturally diverse communities and underserved populations will enhance your ability to connect with residents. Certification in CPR, first aid, medication administration, and home & community care practices is preferred. A background in social work or behavioral health combined with excellent communication skills will help you succeed in this dynamic role.
