Position Summary
As the Shelter Manager, you will oversee day-to-day shelter operations, supervise staff,
ensure resident safety, and maintain a positive, trauma-informed environment.
You’ll work closely with the Executive Director and program team to ensure the shelter
runs efficiently while delivering high-quality services to residents.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day operations of the emergency shelter
- Supervise, coach, and support shelter staff
- Develop staff schedules and ensure adequate coverage
- Coordinate resident admissions, orientations, bed assignments, and discharges
- Respond to emergencies, resident concerns, and crisis situations
- Ensure shelter policies and procedures are followed consistently
- Maintain a safe, clean, respectful, welcoming environment for residents and staff
- Coordinate with case managers and community partners to support resident outcomes
- Monitor facility conditions and coordinate maintenance needs
- Ensure timely and accurate documentation and operational records
- Assist with recruiting, onboarding, and training new employees
- Promote a culture of teamwork, accountability, professionalism, and compassion
Qualifications
Required
- Associate degree in Human Services, Social Work, Criminal Justice, Public Administration, or related field (Bachelor’s preferred)
- Minimum 3 years of experience in homeless services, residential programs, social
- services, behavioral health, or related human services field
- Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to remain calm and use sound judgment during emergencies
- Commitment to providing respectful, trauma-informed services
- Valid Michigan driver’s license and reliable transportation
Preferred
- Experience in an emergency shelter or residential facility
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care, crisis intervention, and conflict resolution
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain after hire)
Compensation & Benefits
Salary: $50,000 annually

Schedule
- Full-time, exempt role
- Primarily Monday–Friday
- Some evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call responsibilities may be required to support shelter operations
