POSITION OVERVIEW

Under the direction and supervision of the area manager, this position is responsible for providing safe, comprehensive care to critically ill and/or injured patients of all ages. Care is provided in the pre-hospital setting and during inter-facility transports by understanding and applying the specialized principles and techniques of flight paramedic practice, emergency procedures and diagnostics.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES

Performs a wide range of specialized functions and complex assessments, diagnoses, therapies and emergency treatment of patients transported by rotor-wing and/or fixed wing and/or ground.
Documents/Charts appropriate and accurate information for assessment and treatment during stabilization and transport.
Clinically functions under the direction of the program's Medical Director through medical protocols and procedures and online medical guidance. For clinical matters, reports directly to the program's current director of Clinical Standards.
Documents/Charts accurate and complete billing information of patient transports.
Maintains and facilitates effective and timely communication between management, internal and external customers.
Participates in activities to support Public Relations (PR) and marketing efforts.
Maintains knowledge base for flight paramedic role.
Attends mandatory meetings, chart reviews, equipment reviews, skill labs, clinical rotations, and continuing education sessions related to the care and transport of critically ill and/or injured patients.
Completes all annual recurrent competency requirements.
Responsible for knowledge of and performing within the regulations and scope of practice of the local Department of Health Services
This position performs other job duties that include but are not limited to: base educator, social media and some public relations representative, office and clinical supplies, wellness, and safety.
Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Must have an active Paramedic Certification in the state(s) employed.
Must have National Registry Paramedic certification if required in the State(s) employed. Otherwise, National Registry Paramedic preferred.
Minimum of three years (five years preferred) current field experience in a busy 911/pre-hospital service.
Current BLS, ACLS, PALS/PEPP and PHTLS/ITLS. NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) preferred. Instructor certifications preferred
Maintains all licenses and certifications required by policy.
Must obtain specialty certification (FP-C) within twenty-four months of hire.
Flight or transport experience preferred.
Effective human relations skills required for interfacing with all levels of personnel and external customers.
Must meet and maintain clinical personnel weight restriction limit for flight according to policy.
Must possess basic computer skills for e-mail, electronic charting, etc.
Bachelor's degree in healthcare related field preferred.
Must have ability to communicate verbally, effectively and clearly in person, by radio and by phone.
Must maintain clinical personnel weight restriction limit for flight according to flight requirements.
Must be able to pass pre-placement physical exam including functional capacity exam (strength and flexibility assessment, lift up to 100 pounds) and drug screening.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or balance; taste or smell, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds; the employee is occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. The special vision abilities required to perform this job are close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to wear helmet with night vision goggles for long periods of time

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Must be able to tolerate stresses of flight including but not limited to excessive motion and vibration and extreme temperatures. Must be able to sit for extended periods of time and tolerate occasional fumes from exhaust and aircraft fuel. Must be able to read, write and speak English fluently.
