Position Summary
The Workover Floor Hand is a member of a 4–5-person workover rig crew responsible for performing well service operations on oil and gas wells. Reporting to the assigned Rig Operator/Workover Foreman, the Floor Hand assists with the safe and efficient execution of workover operations, equipment handling, and general rig activities.
This position plays a critical role in supporting daily rig operations by assisting with rig-up and rig-down procedures, handling tubulars and related equipment, maintaining equipment and work areas, and ensuring all tasks are performed in accordance with company procedures, customer requirements, and safety standards. The Floor Hand is expected to work as part of a team to safely deliver high-quality service while meeting operational and customer expectations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in rigging up and rigging down workover rig equipment and associated well service components.
- Assist with pulling, laying down, and handling rods, tubing, casing, and other tubulars used in workover operations.
- Operate hand tools, power tools, and rig equipment as directed by the Rig Operator or Workover Foreman.
- Perform general labor duties associated with well servicing and workover operations.
- Assist with the inspection, maintenance, cleaning, and lubrication of rig equipment and tools.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment on the rig location.
- Follow operational procedures and instructions to ensure safe and efficient job execution.
- Participate in pre-job meetings, safety meetings, and job hazard assessments.
- Assist in loading, unloading, and securing equipment and materials.
- Report equipment deficiencies, unsafe conditions, or operational concerns to the Rig Operator or Workover Foreman.
- Work effectively with crew members to support safe and productive operations.
- Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Rig Operator, Workover Foreman, or other designated management personnel.
Safety Responsibilities
- Adhere to all company safety policies, procedures, and customer-specific safety requirements.
- Wear and maintain required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Participate in safety training, inspections, and safety meetings.
- Immediately report all incidents, injuries, near misses, and unsafe conditions.
- Exercise stop-work authority when unsafe conditions or practices are observed.
- Promote and contribute to a culture of safety, teamwork, and operational excellence.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous oilfield, workover rig, drilling rig, construction, or heavy industrial experience preferred.
- Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, and equipment common to well service operations.
- Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and commitment to safety.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record are required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull heavy equipment and materials on a regular basis.
- Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, and perform duties on elevated work platforms.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, squat, and perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods.
- Ability to work in varying weather and environmental conditions, including heat, cold, wind, and precipitation.
- Ability to safely perform duties in a fast-paced oilfield environment.
Work Environment
This position is primarily performed in an outdoor oilfield environment and may require extended work hours based on operational needs. Work is performed around heavy equipment, moving machinery, and varying weather conditions.
