The Route Sales Representative is responsible for growing sales and servicing established customer accounts through a designated delivery route. This position delivers products, manages truck inventory, develops customer relationships, identifies sales opportunities, and provides product training and support. The Route Sales Representative serves as a trusted advisor to customers while ensuring exceptional service, product availability, and territory growth. This role requires a combination of sales ability, customer service, inventory management, and operational efficiency.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Sales & Business Development
- Develop and grow sales within an assigned territory through regular customer visits and relationship-building activities.
- Identify opportunities to increase sales with existing customers and prospect new accounts.
- Promote company products, programs, and services to support customer success and business growth.
- Achieve or exceed sales, revenue, and profitability goals.
- Provide sales forecasts, territory updates, and growth recommendations to management.
- Monitor market conditions, industry trends, and competitive activities and communicate findings to management.
Customer Service & Training
- Build and maintain strong relationships with customers through regular contact and exceptional service.
- Address customer concerns and resolve issues promptly and professionally.
- Provide training and product demonstrations regarding proper product usage, handling procedures, and best practices.
- Educate customers on cleaning processes, detailing procedures, and safe chemical handling techniques.
- Serve as a knowledgeable resource regarding company products and applications.
Route Operations & Deliveries
- Travel daily throughout an assigned territory to deliver products and service customer accounts.
- Safely operate company vehicles and maintain compliance with all traffic laws and company safety requirements.
- Complete deliveries accurately and efficiently according to established schedules.
- Maintain a professional appearance and represent the company positively during all customer interactions.
- Ensure vehicles are clean, organized, and properly maintained.
Inventory Management
- Manage truck inventory to ensure adequate stock levels are maintained.
- Monitor product usage, inventory levels, and replenishment needs.
- Complete inventory counts and reconciliation activities accurately and on time.
- Maintain accurate records using company inventory and billing systems.
- Minimize inventory shrinkage, damage, and product loss.
Reporting & Administration
- Complete sales reports, customer activity reports, and inventory documentation.
- Utilize company software, billing systems, Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and other required business applications.
- Maintain accurate customer records and account information.
- Communicate regularly with management regarding territory performance, customer needs, and business opportunities.
Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Chauffeur License if required.
- Experience in customer service, sales, route service, delivery, or related field.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to work independently and manage a territory effectively.
Preferred
- Route sales experience.
- Chemical sales, industrial products, automotive detailing, or related industry experience.
- Experience working with dealerships, fleet operations, body shops, or commercial service customers.
- Experience with inventory management and sales reporting systems.

- Ability to work in varying weather and environmental conditions.
