I. JOB SUMMARY:
- Screens, evaluates and treats patients who demonstrate disorders of speech, language, cognition, and/or swallowing.
- Participates as an integral member of the Home Health Team.
II. TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
A. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Seeing. Hearing. Speaking. Finger dexterity.
B. MANUAL MATERIAL HANDLING:
- Infrequent: N/A
- Occasional: Lift waist to shoulder between 6-10 lbs. Carry between 6-10 lbs.
- Frequent: Push and Pull between 36-50 lbs.
- Constant: N/A
C. NON-MANUAL MATERIAL HANDLING:
- Infrequent: N/A
- Occasional: Kneel. Climb: Stairs/Ladder.
- Frequent: Stoop/Bend. Twist. Squat. Reach: shoulder level. Reach: above head. Gripping.
- Constant: Stand. Walk.
III. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Not substantially subjected to adverse environmental conditions.
- Occasional exposure to safety hazards, diseases, or contamination.
- Exposure to body fluids and wastes; hazards from electrical.
- Works with mechanical/power equipment; subjected to injury from moving parts of equipment.
- May perform emergency care.
- Subjected to many interruptions and variables throughout the day.
- Required Personal Protective Equipment: Eye protection, gown, mask, non-sterile or sterile medical gloves, booties and bonnet.
- Must have access to a motor vehicle.
IV. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A. EDUCATION:
- No diploma and/or degree requirement.
B. CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:
- Current Hawaii State license as a Speech Language Pathologist.
- Current American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) certification.
- Valid U.S. driver’s license required in accordance with Hawaii state law rules and regulations.
- Driver’s abstract or evidence of good driving record.
- Completion of a Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallow (FEES) or Modified Barium Swallow (MBS) course preferred.
- Current BLS certification.
C. EXPERIENCE:
- Prior Speech Language Pathologist experience preferred.
- Experience in home healthcare preferred.
- Prior FEES or MBS clinical experience preferred.
- Experience with adult swallowing, communication, and cognitive evaluation and treatment preferred.
- Experience to demonstrate the following:
o Knowledge and skills to provide care appropriate to age of patients served.
o Knowledge of state and federal guidelines/regulations.
o Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
o Strong organization and planning skills: anticipate tasks/prioritize assignments; manage multiple projects, varying schedule and clinical load.
