Duties
- Safely operate commercial vehicles such as school buses, transit buses, and paratransit vans in accordance with traffic laws and company policies
- Assist passengers with wheelchair assistance, boarding, and alighting to ensure comfort and safety
- Maintain a clean, well-maintained vehicle by conducting pre-trip inspections and reporting any mechanical issues promptly
- Follow emergency response procedures for transportation incidents, including CPR and first aid when necessary
- Enforce student discipline policies and manage passenger behavior with professionalism and care
- Respond quickly to traffic changes or route adjustments to ensure timely arrivals and departures
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers, passengers, and team members using clear English or multilingual skills as needed
Requirements
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements for passenger transport (e.g., P endorsement for passenger vehicles)
- Proven experience in bus driving, school bus operation, or transit services with a focus on passenger safety
- Knowledge of transportation safety regulations, vehicle codes, state and local commercial driving laws
- Ability to perform heavy lifting when assisting passengers or handling equipment
- Strong communication skills to interact effectively with diverse passenger groups including children and seniors
- Familiarity with child care policies, student discipline procedures, and behavior management techniques
- Certification in first aid and CPR (or willingness to obtain upon hire) to respond to emergencies confidently
- Understanding of traffic laws, emergency stop procedures, defensive driving techniques, and quick response strategies for traffic changes
- Experience working with children or elderly populations is preferred; multilingual abilities are a plus
- Ability to maintain professionalism under pressure while ensuring compliance with all safety standards
