Olmecs Communications LLC is seeking an experienced Fiber Quality Control & Field Support Lead to support our residential fiber-to-the-home installation and service operations across assigned Oklahoma markets.
This is a hands-on technical and quality-control position that serves as a point of contact between field technicians and the Project Manager. The lead will inspect completed work orders, communicate QC corrections to technicians, provide technical assistance by phone or in the field, follow up on routine correction needs, and respond to assigned customer or field escalations.
The purpose of this role is to resolve routine technical and QC matters at the field level whenever possible while keeping the Project Manager informed. Unresolved issues, repeated problems, serious quality concerns, personnel matters, and situations requiring management authority must be escalated to the Project Manager.
The position is based in Lawton, Oklahoma, but requires regular travel throughout our service territory. Current markets include Lawton, Altus, Mangum, Headrick, Weatherford, Duncan, Ada, Ardmore, Kingston, Cheyenne, Elk City, Sayre, Cordell, Marlow, Clinton, Coalgate, and surrounding areas.
Primary Responsibilities
- Inspect completed residential fiber work orders for compliance with company and client quality requirements.
- Complete the required QC form for every inspection and submit it as the inspection is completed.
- Document inspection results accurately using photographs, written findings, and required supporting information.
- Identify installation defects, incomplete work, safety concerns, documentation issues, and other conditions requiring technician attention or management review.
- Send identified QC corrections directly to the responsible technician with clear information about what requires attention.
- Follow up with the technician to confirm that the requested QC correction has been addressed and properly documented.
- Escalate unresolved, disputed, repeated, serious, or time-sensitive QC concerns to the Project Manager.
- Serve as a technical point of contact for technicians who need installation or troubleshooting assistance.
- Provide technical assistance by phone or in the field when technicians encounter difficult or unusual installation conditions.
- Accept delegated technical-support, QC, customer-escalation, and field-assistance assignments from the Project Manager.
- Assist with troubleshooting, installation methods, equipment issues, cable routing, testing, and customer-premises concerns within the lead’s experience and assigned scope.
- Respond to assigned customer escalations or field situations requiring someone with greater technical experience than a standard installer.
- Inspect and document escalation conditions, provide appropriate technical assistance, and report findings, actions taken, and completion status to the Project Manager.
- Immediately elevate any escalation that cannot be resolved within the lead’s technical scope or requires a management or client decision.
- Return to completed work locations when assigned to verify corrections, confirm conditions, or gather additional information.
- Complete a limited number of assigned installations or service jobs when field coverage requires it and the QC workload permits.
- Maintain timely communication with the Project Manager regarding inspections, correction status, technician assistance, escalation findings, unresolved issues, and completed assignments.
- Travel throughout the assigned Oklahoma markets to perform inspections and provide technical field support.
- Maintain professional communication with technicians, subcontractors, customers, and company management.
Authority and Reporting Structure
The Fiber Quality Control & Field Support Lead has authority to:
- Communicate documented QC deficiencies directly to the responsible technician.
- Request that identified installation issues be corrected.
- Follow up with the technician and request the documentation needed to confirm completion.
- Provide technical direction and assistance within established company and client installation requirements.
- Resolve routine technical questions and field issues within the lead’s experience and assigned scope.
The lead must escalate the matter to the Project Manager when a correction is not completed, a technician disputes the finding, a problem becomes repeated or serious, or the situation requires management authority.
The Project Manager retains responsibility for technician assignments, scheduling, pay, discipline, formal performance management, removal from the field, client commitments, exceptions to established requirements, and final decisions on escalated matters. The lead does not independently exercise those authorities.
Hybrid Field Structure
This is not a desk-based position. Depending on workload and field coverage, the lead may complete a limited number of installations or service assignments earlier in the day and perform QC inspections or field-support assignments during the remainder of the day.
Some days may require full attention to inspections, correction follow-up, technician assistance, travel, or customer escalations. QC and assigned field-support needs will determine the daily schedule. Installation production will not take priority over required inspections or escalation coverage.
Required Qualifications
- Demonstrated hands-on experience completing fiber-to-the-home or comparable fiber internet installations.
- Previous telecommunications quality-control, lead-technician, advanced field-technician, technical-support, or crew-support experience.
- Working knowledge of residential fiber installation practices, exterior and interior cable routing, equipment placement, testing, documentation, troubleshooting, and customer-premises workmanship.
- Ability to identify installation defects, communicate required corrections clearly, and follow up professionally with technicians.
- Ability to recognize when an issue can be handled through routine technical support and when it must be escalated to the Project Manager.
- Ability to troubleshoot difficult field conditions and explain technical solutions clearly by phone and in person.
- Strong computer skills and the ability to complete electronic forms, upload photographs, document findings, track correction status, and communicate from the field.
- Valid driver’s license, acceptable driving history, reliable personal vehicle, and ability to travel daily throughout the service territory.
- Ability to pass a background check.
- Ability to safely climb ladders, work in attics and crawl spaces, enter customer homes, and work outdoors in changing Oklahoma weather conditions.
- Strong organization, judgment, accountability, and written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while staying within the assigned operational authority and keeping the Project Manager informed.
Experience with any established fiber internet provider is acceptable. Experience with a particular provider is not required.
Schedule and Travel
- Monday through Friday
- Typical field coverage begins between 7:00 and 8:00 a.m. and generally continues until approximately 5:00 p.m.
- Saturday availability may be required depending on workload, inspection needs, escalations, and technician coverage.
- Daily regional travel is required. Applicants must be comfortable covering multiple Oklahoma markets rather than working only within Lawton.
- Specific travel expectations and any applicable travel-related arrangements will be discussed during the hiring process.
Compensation and Contractor Requirements
- Starting at $1,000 per week for QC and field-support responsibilities.
- Installations personally completed in addition to QC and field-support responsibilities will be paid at the normal production rate for the work completed.
- This is a full-time 1099 contract opportunity.
- The contractor must maintain a valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle, required automobile insurance, and the ability to perform electronic field reporting.
What Success Looks Like
The successful candidate will provide accurate and timely QC documentation, communicate and close routine corrections without unnecessary management involvement, give technicians dependable technical support, respond professionally to assigned escalations, recognize when management involvement is required, and keep the Project Manager informed of correction status, field findings, completed assistance, and unresolved concerns throughout the service territory.
Pay: From $1,000.00 per week
Work Location: In person
