Fayetteville Technical Community College is recruiting for a new member to join our Information Technology Services Team and now accepting applications for a full-time IT Infrastructure Manager!
The IT Infrastructure Manager is responsible for the design, implementation, operation, maintenance, and support of the College’s network, telecommunications, and infrastructure systems across multiple campuses and facilities. This position provides both strategic leadership and hands-on technical expertise to ensure reliable, secure, and high-performing infrastructure services.
This role oversees day-to-day infrastructure operations, supervises network and infrastructure staff, and ensures service availability and responsiveness for students, faculty, and staff. The position is accountable for infrastructure performance, lifecycle planning, vendor coordination, security alignment, and the successful execution of infrastructure initiatives.
This position requires both leadership and hands-on technical involvement.
Work may involve responding to urgent service disruptions and critical infrastructure issues.
Some after-hours, on-call, and weekend work will be required to support maintenance windows and incident response.

Duties
Leadership and Operations:
- Lead, supervise, and mentor ITS infrastructure staff, providing guidance, task prioritization, and performance management.
- Manage ITS infrastructure and network operations across multiple campuses, including incident response, escalation management, and service restoration.
- Ensure consistent delivery of secure and reliable ITS infrastructure services that meet institutional needs.
Infrastructure Management:
- Design, implement, and maintain wired and wireless network environments, including LAN, WAN, campus backbone, and cloud-connected systems.
- Install, configure, and support infrastructure components such as switches, routers, firewalls, wireless controllers, access points, and telecommunications systems.
- Perform hands-on technical work as needed to support operations, resolve service issues, respond to outages, and complete infrastructure projects.
Monitoring and Performance Management:
- Monitor network and infrastructure performance using management tools; analyze logs, alerts, and trends.
- Develop, track, and report key performance indicators (KPIs) related to availability, performance, service response, outage trends, lifecycle status, and vendor performance.
- Identify and implement continuous improvement strategies to enhance service reliability, capacity, and resiliency.
Security and Compliance:
- Administer infrastructure security controls, including firewalls, VPNs, network segmentation, access controls, and secure configurations.
- Coordinate with the Office of the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) on risk management, vulnerability remediation, incident response, and compliance requirements.
- Ensure infrastructure aligns with institutional policies and applicable regulations (e.g., FERPA, PCI, HIPAA, NIST 800-53, 800-171, and other data protection standards).
Change Management and Maintenance:
- Plan and execute system updates, patches, configuration changes, and maintenance activities.
- Maintain change control processes, documentation, and rollback procedures to minimize service disruption.
- Oversee preventive maintenance and lifecycle replacement planning.
Troubleshooting and Support:
- Diagnose and resolve complex network, telecommunications, and infrastructure issues.
- Provide advanced escalation support and coordinate resolution with vendors, service providers, and state agencies.
Documentation and Standards:
- Develop and maintain comprehensive infrastructure documentation, including:
- Network diagrams and topographies
- Configuration management
- Standards and procedures
- Inventory and lifecycle records
- Operational runbooks and maintenance logs
- Ensure documentation supports operational continuity and compliance requirements.
- In coordination with the AVP for ITS, develop and maintain appropriate key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate infrastructure operations and make adjustments to the infrastructure to ensure healthy systems that remain operational, reliable, and secure.
Vendor and Stakeholder Coordination:
- Coordinate with external partners, including service providers, ISPs, the North Carolina Department of Information Technology (NCDIT), and the North Carolina Community College System Office.
- Support procurement activities, including requirements development, vendor evaluation, and lifecycle planning.
- Collaborate with internal departments, such as the College’s Office of CISO and ITS leadership on infrastructure-related initiatives.
Disaster and Recovery Continuity:
- Support disaster recovery and business continuity planning for infrastructure services.
- Participate in testing, evaluation, and implementation of corrective actions.
- Coordinate technical response team and work to recover operations
Additional Responsibilities:
- Participate in infrastructure projects, upgrades, and institutional initiatives.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Networking, Infrastructure Technology, or a related field or the equivalent of experience and education.
- Minimum of five years of progressive experience in network or infrastructure administration.
- Experience with enterprise LAN/WAN, wireless, telecommunications, and multi-site environments.
Preferred Requirements
- CompTIA Network+, Security+, Cloud+, or Server+
- Vendor certifications (e.g., Cisco, HPE Aruba, Fortinet, Microsoft, AWS, Azure)
- Supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
