Job description:
Position Summary: The Medical Assistant in this role will support our medical team in a residential treatment program specializing in detoxification and substance use disorder (SUD) treatment. The successful candidate will have experience working directly with clients experiencing detox and will be proficient in assisting with medical procedures, documenting patient information accurately, and working collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team.
Essential Job Functions:
- Provide direct support and assistance to clients undergoing detoxification, ensuring their safety, comfort, and adherence to treatment protocols.
- Monitor vital signs, symptoms, and behaviors of clients undergoing detox, reporting any concerns promptly to the medical team.
- Offer emotional support and encouragement to clients throughout the detox process, demonstrating empathy and understanding of their unique challenges.
- Utilize knowledge and experience in substance use disorder to effectively communicate with clients and address their needs during detoxification.
- Assist in the implementation of treatment plans tailored to each client's substance use history, withdrawal symptoms, and mental health status.
- Work closely with physicians, nurses, therapists, and other members of the medical team to ensure coordinated and comprehensive care for clients.
- Assist medical professionals in conducting medical assessments, administering medications, and performing medical procedures as needed.
- Communicate effectively with team members to relay important client information, updates, and concerns.
- Accurately document client assessments, interventions, and progress notes in the electronic health records (EHR) system in a timely manner.
- Ensure compliance with confidentiality regulations and maintain the integrity and security of client health information.
Qualifications:
- Certified Medical Assistant
- Minimum of one (1) year experience working with special populations.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
- Valid California driver’s license and proof of insurability.
Must be able to pass the following pre-employment screenings:
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) certification preferred.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience working as a medical assistant in a healthcare setting, with specific experience in detox and substance use disorder treatment preferred.
- Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) systems, with experience in documenting patient information accurately and efficiently.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact compassionately with clients experiencing detox and SUD.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team, demonstrating collaboration, adaptability, and professionalism.
- Must be able to pass a criminal history background screening;
- Must maintain CPR / First Aide Certification, and provide yearly physical exam, including Tuberculosis test results.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands:
- You may interact with residents in their living quarters, which can include shared dormitories or individual rooms within the facility. It's important to respect residents' privacy and maintain confidentiality while providing medical assistance.
- Be prepared to respond to medical emergencies or crises that may arise within the residential setting. Familiarize yourself with emergency protocols and collaborate closely with the medical team to ensure timely and appropriate interventions.
- Respect and honor the diversity of residents' backgrounds, cultures, and beliefs. Tailor your approach to care to accommodate individual preferences and cultural considerations.
- There may be instances where you are required to lift or push objects weighing up to 20 lbs. This could include transporting medical equipment, supplies, or assisting residents with mobility devices.
- Activities such as sitting, standing, walking, and reaching are performed routinely as part of the normal course of your duties. These activities are essential for providing direct patient care, assisting with medical procedures, and conducting documentation tasks.
