Material Processor – Plate Rolling / ASME Code Fabrication

Specialty Machine Works, an ASME code fabrication shop serving the Gulf Coast, is hiring an experienced Material Processor with hands-on plate rolling experience. This role is central to our fabrication floor, prepping and forming steel plate to precise tolerances for ASME Section VIII pressure vessel and code fabrication work
Responsibilities
- Operate plate rolling equipment to form steel plate (typically 1/4" to 1"+ thick) into cylindrical and conical shells to specified radii and tolerances
- Set up and operate plate processing equipment, including plasma/oxy-fuel burning tables, and beveling tools
- Read and interpret fabrication drawings, weld maps, and cut lists to determine material sizing, rolling sequence, and bevel requirements
- Verify rolled shell dimensions, out-of-roundness, and diameter using tape measures, calipers, and templates to meet ASME code tolerances
- Stage and identify material (heat numbers, material certs) in accordance with ASME code traceability requirements
- Coordinate with welding, layout, and QC personnel to ensure rolled components are fit-up ready
- Maintain a clean, safe work area and follow all shop safety procedures around overhead cranes, rigging, and heavy plate handling
Qualifications
- Minimum 2+ years of experience operating plate rolling equipment (pyramid or initial-pinch style rolls) in a fabrication or shipyard environment
- Familiarity with ASME code fabrication requirements, material traceability, and quality documentation is strongly preferred
- Ability to read fabrication drawings and use precision measuring tools (calipers, tape measures, protractors)
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work on your feet in a shop environment
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety standards
Pay: $27.00 - $33.00 per hour
