Role Overview
We are seeking a creative, energetic, and nurturing Music & Art Teacher to join our team for 8 hours per week. This dual-role position is responsible for designing and leading engaging, age-appropriate creative arts experiences for preschool and elementary students.
The ideal candidate has a deep love for early childhood and elementary education, a strong background in both music and visual arts, and a passion for fostering self-expression, confidence, and fine/gross motor development in a collaborative environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesMusic & Movement
- Active Music Making: Lead engaging music sessions incorporating singing, rhythm instruments, storytelling, and creative movement.
- Foundational Skills: Introduce basic musical concepts such as pitch, tempo, steady beat, and listening skills through playful, interactive games.
- Cultural Exploration: Expose students to a diverse variety of musical genres, cultures, and traditional songs.
Visual Arts
- Process-Oriented Art: Plan and lead tactile, hands-on visual arts projects that prioritize exploration, texture, and creativity over rigid, uniform outcomes.
- Skill Development: Introduce foundational art concepts (color mixing, shapes, patterns) using a variety of safe, age-appropriate mediums (clay, paint, collage, drawing).
- Display & Clean-Up: Organize and maintain art supplies, ensure a safe and tidy studio space, and help showcase student work within the school community.
Classroom Management & Community
- Positive Guidance: Create a warm, supportive classroom environment where every child feels safe to experiment and express themselves.
- Collaboration: Communicate occasionally with classroom teachers to align art/music activities with broader classroom themes or seasonal projects.
Schedule & Compensation
- Hours: 8 hours per week (Spread across 2–3 days; specific schedule to be finalized upon hire).
- Classification: Part-Time, W-2 Employee.
- Compensation: $25 - $35 / hour, commensurate with experience.
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: Minimum of 1–2 years teaching music and/or art to early childhood (preschool) and elementary-aged children.
- Education: Degree or active training in Music Education, Art Education, Early Childhood Development, or a related field preferred (substantial direct teaching experience may be substituted).
- Child-Centered Philosophy: Deep understanding of child development, with a teaching style that values student agency, play, and exploration.
- Communication: Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to connect warmly with young children, colleagues, and parents.
- Clearances: Ability to pass a comprehensive criminal background check and fingerprinting.
Pay: $25.00 - $35.00 per hour
