Overview
Refresh Psychotherapy is a Female Autistic-owned private practice in South Slope, Brooklyn. We are a culturally and clinically diverse psychotherapy practice serving New Yorkers. We provide both in-person and virtual care. We presently serve only adults but have decided to expand our work to providing care for teens ages 14 and up. The vast majority of our clients use insurance to pay for their care, making mental health care accessible.
We are looking for a passionate clinician who has a clear focus on niche clients they’d like to work with and will join the team with ideas and excitement on adding to the practice. A successful clinician in our practice is adept at diagnosis, the ability to think creatively and critically, is focused on delivering quality treatment to our clients, and has the confidence needed to support the growth of the practice.
Many of our clients have spent years feeling misunderstood, misdiagnosed, or pressured to mask who they are. They come to us looking for therapists who genuinely understand neurodivergence and who can provide affirming, evidence-based care without trying to make them appear more neurotypical.
Because of the population we serve, we highly value clinicians who bring lived experience of neurodivergence or other meaningful lived experience that informs their understanding of neurodivergent communities. While lived experience is not a requirement for employment, we recognize the unique perspective it can bring to therapeutic relationships and strongly encourage these clinicians to apply.
We are looking for clinicians who are able to work a hybrid schedule, providing both in-person and virtual care.
About The Position
This is not an entry-level or "learn as you go" position. Refresh Psychotherapy is a neurodiversity-affirming specialty practice. This is not a position for clinicians who are looking to learn neurodiversity-affirming care on the job. Applicants should already possess a strong understanding of autism, ADHD, and other forms of neurodivergence and be able to provide psychotherapy from a neurodiversity-affirming framework from their first day of employment.
Our practice does not utilize Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) principles or other compliance-based approaches to psychotherapy. We are seeking clinicians whose clinical work is already grounded in neurodiversity-affirming, strengths-based, and autonomy-supportive models of care. While we value ongoing consultation and professional development, supervision is intended to deepen existing expertise—not provide foundational training in neurodiversity-affirming practice or transition clinicians away from ABA-based models.
