Position Summary: Responsibilities for the adjudication of life claims in an accurate and timely manner while maintaining compliance with state regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Utilize various administration/claim systems and policy files to verify benefit information, obtain calculations and verify final payments.
- Respond to telephone and written correspondence regarding routine claims, including inquiry calls, providing updates, status on requirements, payment information, etc.
- Begin training on preparing more complex letters to beneficiaries, agents, reinsurers, and attorneys as needed.
- Routinely process claim payments in compliance with state regulations (No processing limit).
- Approve claim payments within specified limits (face amounts up to $25,000).
- Routinely work on locating beneficiaries and verifying benefits in regard to Regulation 200 and the various state Unclaimed Property Regulations.
- Assist with the state unclaimed property alpha searches as assigned.
Critical Qualifications:
- Associate's degree (AA) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school: or three years life insurance experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum 1 year of disability and/or life claims experience.
- LOMA courses 280, 290, and 311 courses required within 3 years.
- Desire and ability to handle more complex claims with time and experience.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as policy contracts, rider coverages and procedure manuals.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient PC skills with the ability to learn and use multiple systems.
- Analytical with demonstrated critical-thinking skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior Life Claims or POS experience preferred.
