Heavy Equipment Diesel Technician – Fire Apparatus & Emergency Vehicles

We're growing and looking for an experienced Heavy Equipment Diesel Technician to join our team servicing fire apparatus, emergency vehicles, and specialized equipment throughout the Pacific Northwest and Alaska.

As a Heavy Equipment Diesel Technician, you will inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain fire apparatus, diesel-powered vehicles, and specialized emergency response equipment. This role is ideal for a technician with strong diesel experience who enjoys working directly with customers and tackling a variety of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and electronic systems.
Experience with fire apparatus, emergency vehicles, fleet maintenance, vocational trucks, ambulances, military vehicles, or specialty equipment is highly valued but not required.
Schedule - Monday – Friday | 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
Some mobile service work and occasional overnight travel may be required. All travel expenses are paid by the company.
What You'll Do
- Perform inspections, diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on fire trucks, diesel trucks, and emergency response vehicles.
- Troubleshoot and repair diesel engines, electrical systems, braking systems, hydraulics, pumps, and auxiliary equipment.
- Conduct preventive maintenance inspections and complete required service documentation.
- Perform mobile service calls at customer locations and fire stations throughout Oregon and Washington.
- Work directly with customers to explain findings, recommend repairs, and provide exceptional service.
- Read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, technical manuals, and manufacturer specifications.
- Collaborate with teammates to resolve complex mechanical and electrical issues.
- Maintain accurate repair records, service reports, and inventory documentation.
- Ensure all repairs meet safety, regulatory, and manufacturer standards.
- Support pump testing, inspections, and other emergency vehicle service requirements.
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience as a Heavy Duty, Diesel, Fleet, or Equipment Technician.
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting experience on diesel-powered equipment.
- Working knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, braking systems, and electrical systems.
- Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical problems independently.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to work both in the shop and independently in the field.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to provide your own hand tools and toolbox.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
Preferred Qualifications
- ASE Certification and/or Heavy-Duty Technician certifications is preferred.
- Experience with fire apparatus, emergency vehicles, ambulances, military vehicles, vocational trucks, construction equipment, or municipal fleets.
- Familiarity with pump systems, multiplex electrical systems, and emergency vehicle components.
- CDL or ability to obtain one.
- Experience performing mobile field service repairs.
