Position Summary
A CDL/Forklift Operator at Dixie Pipe Sales will be responsible for safely operating forklifts and commercial vehicles to transport, load, unload, and organize steel pipe and related materials within our manufacturing facility, outdoor pipe yard, and on the road. This role requires expertise in material handling, adherence to safety protocols, and the ability to work in a fast-paced industrial environment.
The CDL/Forklift Operator will support production, shipping, receiving, and inventory operations while ensuring compliance with OSHA, DOT, and company safety standards.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Forklift Operations
- Safely operate forklifts to move steel pipe in an industrial setting.
- Transport materials between the pipe yard, warehouse, and production areas.
- Stage materials according to production schedules and customer orders.
- Perform accurate receiving, stocking, and shipping activities.
- Verify material quantities, dimensions, and identification before movement.
- Maintain organized pipe yard storage locations using FIFO (First-In, First-Out) inventory practices.
- Assist with inventory counts and material reconciliation.
- Inspect forklifts before each shift and report any maintenance or safety concerns.
- Secure loads using appropriate lifting techniques and attachments to prevent damage or injury.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Follow all OSHA regulations and company safety procedures.
CDL Driving Responsibilities
- Safely operate a Class A CDL vehicle to transport pipe to and from locations.
- Load and unload pipe, ensuring proper weight distribution and secure placement using chains, strapping, or binders.
- Complete delivery paperwork, such as bills of lading, and maintain shipping records.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections; report maintenance issues and ensure the truck, trailer, and equipment are clean and in safe working order.
- Maintain compliance with federal and state DOT regulations, including keeping required certifications up to date.
- Adhere to safety standards, especially when handling heavy loads, and pass regular drug, motor vehicle record, and background screenings as required.

- Work collaboratively with the yard and logistics teams to complete tasks efficiently.
Additional Responsibilities
- Assist production, warehouse, and logistics teams as needed.
- Work overtime and weekends when business demands require.
- Occasionally assist with yard duties or other operations as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of forklift operating experience in manufacturing, steel, pipe yard, or heavy industrial environments.
- Minimum 3 years of recent flatbed or similar heavy truck and trailer driving experience (CDL required).
- Experience safely operating forklifts carrying oversized or extended loads.
- Experience loading and unloading flatbed trailers and securing heavy materials.
- Ability to read shipping documents, material labels, and work orders.
- Strong attention to safety and detail.
- Valid Class A CDL with a clean driving record; relevant endorsements as needed.
- Completion of all federally required physical exams and certifications.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds; heavier materials moved using equipment.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, and work throughout a 10–12-hour shift.
- Ability to work in outdoor weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and dust.
- Must wear required PPE, including steel-toe boots, safety glasses, gloves, hard hat, and high-visibility vest.
- Must pass background, DOT, and drug screenings.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a steel service center, pipe yard, fabrication shop, or manufacturing facility.
- Experience with overhead cranes is a plus.
- Familiarity with ERP or warehouse inventory systems.
- Knowledge of DOT regulations and compliance.
Physical Requirements
- Frequently lift up to 50 pounds; heavier materials moved using equipment.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, and work throughout a 10–12-hour shift.
- Ability to work in outdoor weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and dust.
- Ability to safely maneuver heavy equipment and moving machinery.

Pay: From $19.00 per hour
