Job Description – Bulk Potato Unloader
The Bulk Potato Unloader is responsible for safely unloading potatoes from incoming trucks, trailers, and railcars in an outdoor receiving environment. This position requires working in varying weather conditions, including heat, rain, wet surfaces, and around water systems, hoses, and moving vehicle traffic. The Bulk Potato Unloader must follow all food safety and workplace safety procedures, communicate effectively with drivers and team members, and maintain a clean and organized unloading area.
Qualifications
Education
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
Experience & Skills

- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work environments.
- Willingness to work flexible schedules, including overtime, weekends, and holidays as required.
- Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP), food safety, and occupational health and safety principles within the food industry is considered an asset.
Principal Responsibilities
- Safely unload potatoes from trucks, trailers, railcars, and other bulk delivery vehicles according to established company procedures.
- Perform work primarily in an outdoor potato receiving and unloading area.
- Operate, monitor, or assist with unloading equipment, conveyors, hoses, water systems, and related tools used in the receiving process.
- Direct and guide truck drivers into unloading locations while maintaining awareness of moving vehicles, equipment, and pedestrians.
- Inspect unloading areas and equipment for safe operation and report any issues or hazards.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment by removing debris, mud, standing water, and loose potatoes as necessary.
- Follow all company food safety, sanitation, quality, and workplace safety standards.
- Comply with lockout/tagout procedures, personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements, and all applicable operating procedures.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, drivers, and coworkers regarding receiving activities and operational concerns.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support receiving and operations activities.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and move for extended periods throughout the workday.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and equipment as required by the position.
- Ability to work safely on wet, uneven, muddy, or slippery surfaces.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, rain, cold, and humidity.
- Ability to wear required PPE, including waterproof boots, gloves, hearing protection, high-visibility apparel, and other company-required safety equipment.
- Ability to work flexible hours, overtime, weekends, and holidays as operational needs require.
Work Environment
- Primarily outdoor work setting.
- Frequent exposure to changing weather conditions.
- Regular exposure to water, hoses, mud, wet surfaces, and moving truck traffic.
- Work performed around conveyors, unloading equipment, and other industrial machinery.

- Exercising caution when working around water systems, wet surfaces, conveyors, trucks, railcars, and other moving equipment.
