Duties
- Prepare compounded medications accurately following prescriptions, ensuring all formulations meet safety and quality standards.
- Assist pharmacists with medication dispensing, labeling, and documentation to maintain compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Maintain a sterile environment by applying aseptic techniques during IV infusion preparation and other sterile compounding procedures.
- Support patient intake processes by verifying prescriptions, reviewing medical records, and providing clear communication about medication instructions.
- Manage inventory of pharmaceutical supplies, ensuring proper storage and timely reordering of ingredients and materials.
- Ensure adherence to hospital protocols for acute care and critical care medication preparation, including medication administration support when needed.
- Document all compounding activities meticulously, including batch records and quality control checks, to uphold compliance standards.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a pharmacy technician with a focus on compounding or LTC pharmacy environments.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, medication administration procedures, and aseptic techniques.
- Critical care experience that demonstrates ability to handle complex medication preparations confidently.
- Excellent patient service skills with a compassionate approach to patient care and intake processes.
- Certification as a pharmacy technician is required; additional certifications in sterile compounding or hospital pharmacy are a plus.
