Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Travel Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU)/Stepdown unit, working night shifts for 48-hour weekly schedules. This role offers an exciting opportunity to provide specialized patient care in a dynamic hospital environment. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in critical care and demonstrate proficiency with various electronic health record (EHR) systems, including Epic and Cerner. You will be instrumental in delivering high-quality nursing services, ensuring patient safety, and supporting recovery processes across diverse medical conditions.
Key responsibilities include performing comprehensive patient assessments, administering medications and treatments such as IV infusions and suturing, managing complex cases involving cardiac catheterization and trauma medicine, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams. Your expertise will contribute to maintaining compliance with healthcare standards, including HIPAA regulations and NCQA standards, while delivering compassionate care tailored to individual needs.
Duties
- Conduct thorough patient assessments, vital signs monitoring, and physiological evaluations to inform care plans.
- Administer medications accurately, including injections, IV infusions, and botulinum toxin treatments when applicable.
- Manage complex clinical procedures such as catheterization, ventilator management, and aseptic techniques.
- Document medical records meticulously using EMR/EHR systems like Epic, Cerner, and other hospital-specific platforms.
- Provide specialized care for patients with acute pain management needs, infectious diseases, or requiring trauma or ICU-level interventions.
- Assist with diagnostic evaluations including laboratory specimen collection, phlebotomy, and imaging procedures such as CT scans.
- Support discharge planning by coordinating post-hospital care, medication reconciliation, and patient education.
- Collaborate with physicians on procedures like suturing or ostomy care; participate in triage or urgent care assessments as needed.
- Ensure compliance with infection control protocols and maintain sterile processing standards.
- Engage in continuous professional development related to hospital medicine specialties such as geriatrics, behavioral health, or neonatal resuscitation procedures.
Requirements
- Valid RN license in the state of practice with current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification; ACLS certification preferred.
- Minimum of two years of critical care experience within ICU or trauma center settings; experience in Level I or Level II trauma centers highly desirable.
- Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic and Cerner; familiarity with ICD-9/ICD-10 coding is advantageous.
- Demonstrated ability to perform advanced clinical procedures including IV insertion, catheterization, tube feeding management, and ventilator support.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, physiology principles, and aseptic techniques essential for safe patient care delivery.
- Experience working with diverse patient populations including pediatrics, geriatrics, individuals with developmental disabilities or dementia.
- Ability to adapt quickly to changing clinical situations while maintaining high standards of patient safety.
- Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration within multidisciplinary teams and patient education.
