Maintenance Technician – Injection Molding
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and optimizing injection molding machines, auxiliary equipment, molds, and facility systems to ensure maximum equipment uptime, product quality, and production efficiency. This hands-on role supports preventative and predictive maintenance programs while working closely with Production, Process Engineering, and Tooling teams to minimize downtime and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot and repair injection molding presses, robots, conveyors, material handling systems, and auxiliary equipment.
- Perform preventative and predictive maintenance on molding machines, chillers, dryers, thermolators, compressors, cooling towers, and facility utilities.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and control system issues.
- Read and interpret electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical schematics.
- Support mold changeovers and assist with equipment setup as needed.
- Perform root cause analysis on equipment failures and implement corrective actions to improve reliability.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records using a CMMS or maintenance tracking system.
- Inspect equipment for safety, wear, and operational performance.
- Assist with machine installations, equipment upgrades, and capital improvement projects.
- Maintain spare parts inventory and recommend replacement parts and equipment improvements.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, LOTO, and company safety procedures.
- Collaborate with production and process technicians to maximize machine efficiency and reduce scrap.
- Respond quickly to equipment breakdowns and provide emergency repairs as required.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on reliability, uptime, and cost reduction.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; technical or trade school education preferred.
- 3+ years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Minimum of 2 years maintaining injection molding equipment preferred.
- Experience with hydraulic, all-electric, or hybrid injection molding presses.
- Strong mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic troubleshooting skills.
- Working knowledge of PLC-controlled equipment; ability to troubleshoot Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar systems is preferred.
- Experience maintaining robots, automation systems, conveyors, dryers, chillers, thermolators, and compressed air systems.
- Ability to read electrical and hydraulic schematics.
- Welding and fabrication experience is a plus.
- Forklift and aerial lift experience preferred.
