Position Overview
This role combines the responsibilities of a Canine Coach with those of a Certified Dog Trainer. You will help supervise daycare playgroups while also leading training sessions for dogs and their owners through private lessons and group classes.
We are looking for someone who is passionate about educating pet parents and building confident, well-mannered dogs through positive reinforcement methods only.
Canine Coach Responsibilities
- Safely supervise large groups of dogs in an open-play environment.
- Read and understand canine body language.
- Maintain a clean and safe playroom.
- Redirect inappropriate behaviors using positive methods.
- Keep dogs engaged through play and enrichment activities.
- Communicate with fellow team members to ensure the safety of every dog.
- Provide exceptional care as if every dog were your own.
- Be comfortable working in playrooms that are live-streamed for pet parents.
Dog Trainer Responsibilities
- Conduct one-on-one private training sessions.
- Lead group obedience classes with dogs and their owners.
- Create individualized training plans based on each dog's needs.
- Educate pet parents on proper training techniques and consistency at home.
- Evaluate canine behavior and recommend appropriate training goals.
- Document training progress and communicate updates with clients.
- Help create educational content and support Dogtopia's training program.
Training Philosophy
Our training program is built on positive reinforcement.
We do not use:
- Shock (e-collars)
- Prong collars
- Choke collars
- Physical corrections
- Fear or intimidation-based methods
Applicants must be committed to rewarding desired behaviors and creating a positive learning experience for every dog.

Applicants should have experience teaching or be highly proficient with:

- Basic potty training
- Proper leash handling
- Canine body language and behavior modification
- Building confidence through positive reinforcement
Qualifications
- Professional dog training experience preferred.
- Dog trainer certification preferred (or equivalent professional experience).
- Strong understanding of canine body language and behavior.
- Comfortable handling dogs of all sizes and breeds.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to coach and educate pet parents in a supportive, encouraging manner.
- Able to stand, bend, lift, and be active throughout the workday.
