ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Review surgery schedule daily to prepare department, supplies, and equipment

Assess, instruct, and prepare patient prior to surgery.
- Ensure the operative informed consents are signed and correct, there is an H&P within 30 days on file and complete pre-op record.

Take and record vital statistics to ensure readiness for surgical procedure

Verify patient identity, operative site and procedure in accordance with center policy.

Receive and care for patient post operatively. Perform assessment of vital signs, oxygen saturation and pain level.

Monitor patient for postop nausea, vomiting, and excessive bleeding.

Perform intervention duties during perioperative emergencies.

Assure safety of discharge based on patient assessment.

Assure availability of responsible escort home and safe home care plan. Review discharge instructions and follow-up with caregiver.
- Participate in staff meetings, required learning, competency, and training activities.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The employee must have good communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills. Must be organized and have time management abilities. Proficiency in electronic medical record systems is preferred. Must demonstrate ability to gather pertinent medical history and provide concise instruction for pre-op and post-op care.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Current Virginia Registered Nurse license

BLS and ACLS certifications required
PRN, Monday through Friday, 10 hours shifts. No Nights! No Weekends! No Holidays! No Call!
