Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Civil Estimator in Concord, NC with a strong background in sitework and utility construction. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, highly organized, and capable of preparing accurate cost estimates and competitive bids for grading, utilities, erosion control, demolition, drainage, and paving projects.
This role requires collaboration with project managers, superintendents, subcontractors, vendors, engineers, and owners throughout the bidding and construction process.
Responsibilities
- Review plans, specifications, and contract documents to determine project scope and requirements.
- Prepare detailed cost estimates, takeoffs, bid proposals, and pricing summaries.
- Develop estimates for grading, erosion control, demolition, utilities, drainage, paving, and related sitework activities.
- Utilize estimating software such as HeavyBid, HCSS, and Bluebeam.
- Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier pricing.
- Conduct site visits to verify existing conditions and quantities.
- Prepare and manage bid packages and supporting documentation.
- Monitor project costs and assist with cost control throughout construction.
- Track quantities, material usage, and project timelines.
- Prepare change orders and assist with contract administration.
- Support monthly billing and project financial reporting.
- Analyze project performance and costs upon completion.
Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of estimating experience in civil construction, sitework, or utilities.
- Experience estimating projects involving:
- Storm drainage
- Water systems
- Sewer systems
- Grading and earthwork
- Asphalt and concrete paving
- Retaining walls
- Proficiency with HeavyBid, HCSS, Bluebeam, or similar estimating software.
- Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
- Knowledge of erosion control practices, environmental compliance, and retention ponds.
- Excellent negotiation and vendor management skills.
- Strong communication and organizational abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites as needed.
Preferred Skills
- Knowledge of NCDOT standards and specifications.
- Experience with project cost tracking and change management.
- Understanding of construction operations, safety procedures, and equipment utilization.
