Job Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and energetic Heavy Equipment Truck Mechanic to join our dynamic maintenance team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of Fire trucks, Aerial Devices, Airport Fire Fighting Vehicles, and Ambulances. Your expertise will ensure that our fleet and equipment operate safely, efficiently, and reliably, supporting our operational goals.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on Fire trucks, Aerial Devices, Airport Fire Fighting Vehicles, and Ambulances to ensure optimal performance.
- Diagnose mechanical issues using schematics, automotive electrical systems diagnostics, and other technical resources; execute repairs efficiently.
- Conduct repairs on transmissions, hydraulic systems, suspensions, shocks & struts, brakes, air brakes, and steering components.
- Fabricate parts or modify equipment using welding, hand tools, power tools, and fabrication techniques to meet operational needs.
- Utilize heavy lifting techniques safely when replacing or installing large components or assemblies.
- Maintain detailed service records including repair logs, inspection reports, and maintenance schedules for compliance and tracking purposes.
- Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot complex mechanical systems involving diesel engines, HVAC systems, electrical systems, and vehicle alignment.
Requirements
- Proven experience working as a Heavy Equipment Truck Mechanic or in a similar heavy machinery repair role; dealership experience is highly desirable.
- Strong mechanical knowledge of heavy truck systems including transmissions, hydraulics, electrical systems, and diesel engines.
- Proficiency with schematics reading and automotive diagnostics tools to identify issues accurately.
- Skilled in the use of hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, soldering tools and other maintenance apparatus.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely while working on large machinery or vehicle components.
- Knowledge of safety protocols related to heavy equipment operation and vehicle maintenance including air brake systems and OSHA standards.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with a focus on efficient repairs and customer service orientation.
