Co-Lead Teacher Job Responsibilities
The Co-Lead Teacher is responsible for providing a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment while partnering closely with another Co-Lead Teacher to oversee all aspects of classroom operations. Together, the Co-Lead Teachers share responsibility for lesson planning, classroom management, child development, family communication, and ensuring compliance with all licensing regulations and center policies. This position reports to the Director of the Child Care Center.
Job Responsibilities
- Collaborate daily with your Co-Lead Teacher to maintain a consistent, organized, and positive classroom environment.
- Share responsibility for planning, preparing, and implementing developmentally appropriate lesson plans and activities.
- Educate and care for children while supporting their physical, emotional, social, and cognitive development.
- Observe, assess, and document children's developmental progress.
- Work as a team to establish consistent classroom expectations and behavior management strategies.
- Foster a respectful, supportive, and professional partnership with your Co-Lead Teacher through open communication and shared decision-making.
- Communicate effectively with families regarding their child's progress, daily activities, and developmental milestones.
- Ensure proper supervision of children at all times while maintaining required staff-to-child ratios.
- Manage classroom routines, including meals, diapering, toileting, naps, transitions, outdoor play, and learning activities.
- Adapt teaching methods and classroom materials to meet each child's individual learning needs and interests.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming classroom environment.
- Share responsibility for maintaining classroom inventories and requesting needed supplies.
- Ensure accurate daily attendance, sign-in/sign-out procedures, and required documentation.
- Maintain licensing compliance by following all health, safety, sanitation, and Virginia child care regulations.
- Collaborate with other classroom staff and center leadership to support the overall success of the program.
- Mentor and provide guidance to Assistant Teachers and classroom aides as needed.
- Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and required training.
- Follow the Emergency Preparedness Plan and respond appropriately during emergencies.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director.
Minimum Job Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Experience working in Early Childhood Education or a related field.
- Ability to work collaboratively with another teacher while sharing classroom leadership responsibilities.
- Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Satisfactory completion of all required background checks in accordance with state regulations.
Preferred QualificationsExperience
- At least one year of teaching experience in a licensed child care setting.
- At least one year of experience working with young children.
- Experience planning curriculum and managing a classroom.
- Experience collaborating with another lead teacher or working within a teaching team.
Licenses/Certifications
- Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential or higher in Early Childhood Education.
- CPR and First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
Pay: $19.00 - $20.00 per hour
