Overview
The Senior Structural Engineer plays a critical role in the analysis, development, and validation of advanced aerospace products. This position is responsible for leading complex structural and thermomechanical analyses to ensure designs meet customer requirements, performance expectations, and quality standards.
Working closely with cross-functional engineering teams, the Senior Structural Engineer will apply sound engineering principles, support rapid product development efforts, resolve technical challenges, and communicate results to both internal and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform structural and thermomechanical analyses of complex aerospace components using commercial finite element analysis (FEA) software and hand calculations
- Partner with design engineers to evaluate and optimize new product designs throughout the development lifecycle
- Conduct peer reviews of structural analyses completed by engineers and external partners
- Interface with customers to clarify technical requirements and provide engineering support
- Prepare and present technical reports, engineering assessments, design reviews, and supporting documentation
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to structural analysis methods, tools, and processes
- Review and approve engineering changes, analysis packages, and test procedures
- Support manufacturing teams in resolving technical issues and nonconformances
- Participate in customer reviews and respond to technical inquiries
- Contribute to proposal efforts, new business opportunities, and future product development initiatives
Required Qualifications
- Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related engineering discipline
- Master’s degree preferred
Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in structural analysis, mechanical design, or a related engineering role
- Aerospace industry experience strongly preferred
- Proven experience performing structural analyses for mechanical components and assemblies
Required Skills and Knowledge
- Extensive experience with finite element analysis (FEA) and commercial analysis software packages
- Strong understanding of structural mechanics and material behavior
- Expertise in material selection and material property evaluation
- Knowledge of engineering design principles, manufacturing processes, and assembly techniques
- Experience with 3D CAD modeling and engineering design software
- Understanding of heat transfer, mass transfer, thermodynamics, and fluid mechanics
- Familiarity with ANSI drawing standards and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing)
- Strong problem-solving and analytical capabilities
- Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to engineering quality
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary teams
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic engineering environment
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work for extended periods at a computer workstation or in a laboratory environment
- Ability to lift and move equipment weighing up to 25 pounds
Additional Requirements
- Due to U.S. Government contract requirements, candidates must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident (Green Card holder).
