Position Overview
Scaffold Education is seeking an enthusiastic and creative Afterschool STEAM & Creative Arts Instructor to lead hands-on enrichment programs for elementary school students.
Our programs combine art, engineering, storytelling, building, imaginative play, and beginner-friendly technology. Current classes include:
The ideal instructor enjoys working with children and knows how to transform educational concepts into fun, engaging activities. This is a great opportunity for an artist, educator, engineer, designer, maker, robotics instructor, or creative professional who wants to inspire children through building, playing, programming, performing, and problem-solving.
Responsibilities
- Lead engaging, age-appropriate afterschool activities for elementary students.
- Teach students how to plan, design, build, test, revise, and present creative projects.
- Guide activities involving go-karts, puppetry, storytelling, architecture, engineering, robotics, and imaginative play.
- Explain artistic and technical concepts in ways children can easily understand.
- Encourage creativity, teamwork, experimentation, and confidence.
- Create a positive, inclusive, and well-managed classroom environment.
- Prepare, organize, distribute, and clean up program materials.
- Follow provided lesson plans while bringing your own energy, creativity, and teaching style.
- Adapt activities for different learning styles, abilities, and levels of experience.
- Communicate professionally with students, families, school staff, and the Scaffold Education team.
- Follow all school-site safety procedures and program expectations.
Qualifications
- Experience working with children in a school, camp, afterschool, childcare, recreation, tutoring, coaching, or similar setting.
- Experience with elementary-aged children is strongly preferred.
- Background or experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Visual or performing arts
- Engineering or robotics
- STEAM education
- Architecture or design
- Crafts, building, or maker activities
- Theater, puppetry, or storytelling
- Coding or beginner-friendly programming
- Passion for helping children learn through creativity, exploration, and play.
- Strong communication, classroom-management, and organizational skills.
- Dependable, patient, energetic, and comfortable leading groups of children.
- Able to safely carry and organize instructional supplies.
- Reliable transportation to assigned school sites.
- Willingness to complete required background checks and school-site clearances.
Preferred Qualifications
- College coursework or a degree in education, art, theater, engineering, robotics, architecture, design, child development, or a related field.
- Previous experience teaching enrichment, STEAM, art, engineering, robotics, or performing-arts programs.
- Experience modifying activities for different ages, learning needs, and skill levels.
- Familiarity with project-based and play-based learning.

You do not need to be an expert in every program area. You should be curious, willing to learn, and confident guiding students through fun, hands-on projects.
