OVERVIEW:
Our client is a large, established organization seeking a Senior Manager, Assurance & Controls to support its business assurance, controls, and operational review function. The company operates across multiple teams, systems, processes, and reporting workflows, creating a need for stronger oversight, clearer documentation, improved issue tracking, and practical management reporting.
This individual will evaluate business processes, assess control design and execution, analyze supporting information, organize review activity, and provide leadership with clear, actionable findings. The Senior Manager will partner with finance, operations, compliance, technology, and business stakeholders to identify gaps, clarify ownership, strengthen documentation, and support timely resolution of open items.
This role is ideal for a hands-on audit, controls, risk advisory, compliance, finance, or process improvement professional who can bring structure to ambiguous business issues, communicate clearly, and help strengthen practical governance in a dynamic environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support management-requested reviews of business processes, controls, documentation practices, approval workflows, policy adherence, reporting gaps, and other areas requiring structured evaluation.
- Develop practical workplans, including review scope, document requests, process walkthroughs, data needs, stakeholder inputs, timelines, and deliverables.
- Review financial, operational, and system-generated information to identify trends, gaps, inconsistencies, exceptions, or areas requiring additional follow-up.
- Conduct stakeholder walkthroughs with business owners and functional leaders to understand process design, handoffs, decision points, approvals, documentation practices, and root causes of recurring issues.
- Assess selected business processes and internal controls, including process design, documentation quality, approval structures, monitoring practices, escalation paths, and management follow-through.
- Prepare concise written summaries documenting work performed, key observations, risk considerations, recommended actions, ownership, and next steps.
- Build or improve practical trackers, templates, reporting packages, and analytical summaries to help management monitor open items, remediation progress, timing, ownership, and recurring process themes.
- Present findings and recommendations to functional leaders in a clear, factual, and business-oriented manner.
- Help monitor remediation activities, including action plan status, owner accountability, target dates, evidence of completion, and escalation of delayed items.
- Maintain appropriate confidentiality, independence, and professional judgment when handling business-sensitive information and cross-functional matters.
- Contribute to the continued buildout of business assurance, controls, reporting, and governance practices as the organization evolves.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field required.
- Senior-level experience in one or more of the following areas: internal audit, internal controls, risk advisory, compliance, finance, controllership, external audit, business assurance, or process review.
- Strong understanding of internal controls, audit methodology, business process risk, governance practices, policy compliance, issue documentation, and remediation tracking.
- Experience leading or supporting process reviews, control assessments, operational audits, business assurance activities, special projects, or management-requested reviews from planning through reporting and follow-up.
- Ability to assess financial and operational information, evaluate supporting documentation, understand approval flows, and identify process or control implications.
- Strong analytical skills, including experience working with transaction data, system reports, spreadsheets, reconciliations, and exception-based analysis.
- Advanced Excel skills required.
- Experience creating or improving management reporting, issue trackers, review templates, project status reporting, process documentation, or analytical summaries strongly preferred.
- Experience with reporting tools, recurring monitoring, automation concepts, or data visualization preferred.
- Professional certification in public accounting, internal audit, risk management, information systems, finance, or a related discipline preferred.
- Strong written communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear review summaries, management updates, findings, recommendations, and action plan materials.
- Strong verbal communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to interact professionally with finance, compliance, technology, operations, and business leadership.
Pay: $155,000.00 - $174,000.00 per year
