Location: Pagosa Springs Medical Center – Pagosa Springs, Colorado
Pagosa Springs Medical Center (PSMC) is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Perioperative Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Surgical Services team.
The Perioperative RN is responsible for coordinating and delivering safe, effective, patient-centered care throughout the surgical continuum, including pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative phases. This role serves as a key liaison between the surgical team and patients, ensuring optimal outcomes through a multidisciplinary approach.
This position may function as a Circulating Nurse, Scrub Nurse, or Assistant Scrub, depending on experience and competency.

Provide comprehensive nursing care throughout pre-op, intra-op, and post-op phases

Perform patient assessments, develop care plans, and monitor patient response

Ensure all surgical consents and documentation are complete and accurate

Act as a patient advocate throughout the surgical experience

Maintain a safe surgical environment outside the sterile field

Coordinate surgical team activities and ensure procedural efficiency

Assist with patient positioning, surgical prep, and intraoperative monitoring

Communicate patient status to surgical team and family as appropriate

Assist in establishing and maintaining sterile fields
-
Perform scrub role duties based on experience and competency

Assist anesthesia during induction and recovery phases
-
Ensure proper handling of specimens and surgical instruments

Follow National Patient Safety Goals and infection prevention protocols

Ensure correct patient, procedure, site, and documentation verification
-
Prevent retained surgical items through proper counting procedures
-
Maintain surgical asepsis and reduce risk of infection

Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia, surgical techs, and interdisciplinary teams

Assist in supervision and support of surgical support staff

Participate in staff education, training, and mentoring

Support departmental quality improvement initiatives

Graduate of an accredited Registered Nurse (RN) program

BSN preferred but not required

Minimum two (2) years of perioperative experience strongly desired

Experience in surgical specialties such as:

Orthopedics
-
General surgery
-
Gynecology
-
Ophthalmology
-
ENT
-
Interventional pain management
-
Endoscopy or GI experience preferred

Current Colorado RN license in good standing
-
Current AHA BLS certification
-
ACLS certification required (or within 3 months of hire)

PALS certification required (or within 3 months of hire)

CNOR certification preferred

CRNFA certification a plus

Strong perioperative clinical knowledge and critical thinking skills

Ability to manage high-acuity surgical cases

Knowledge of sterile technique and surgical safety protocols

Strong communication and teamwork abilities

Ability to remain calm and effective in high-pressure situations

Hospital surgical suite and perioperative settings
-
Exposure to blood, bodily fluids, radiation, chemicals, and surgical instruments

Fast-paced environment with potential for high-stress situations

Physical demands include standing, lifting, and assisting with patient positioning

Base Compensation Range: $33.25 - $51.40 hourly, based on years of relevant experience (0-22 years). "Relevant experience" means relevant to the employee's responsibilities set forth in the job description as determined by the HR Manager, CAO, applicable department manager/director and applicable senior leader.

On-Call Pay: Additional compensation provided for on-call coverage and call-back hours

Starting Work Bonus: This position is eligible for a starting work bonus of up to $5,000. Eligibility, amount, and payment terms are subject to Pagosa Springs Medical Center’s compensation policies and may vary based on position, experience, and employment status. Bonus payments, if applicable, are typically issued after the employee has met required employment and service criteria.
- Moving Expense Reimbursement: This position is eligible for a moving expense reimbursement of up to $3,000. Reimbursement is subject to Pagosa Springs Medical Center’s relocation policy and requires prior approval. Eligible expenses and reimbursement amounts may vary based on position and individual circumstances. Reimbursement is processed in accordance with established policy and applicable tax regulations.
