JOB SUMMARY
This position is responsible for coordinating accounting functions in support of the Tax Commissioner's Office
and for providing support to the Tax Commissioner as needed.
MAJOR DUTIES
- Maintains bank account balances.
- Prepares titles for shipment; checks for errors;scans and retains copies.
- Balances motor vehicle accounts.
- Balances property, timber, and intangible tax accounts.
- Prints motor vehicle renewals paid online.
- Receives inventory for motor vehicle licenses; reviews shipments for accuracy.
- Audits School Tax submissions for accuracy
- Makes bank deposits.
- Picks up mail from Post Office.
- Composes a variety of correspondence.
- Maintains bankruptcy files.
- Remains informed of changes to relevant laws
- Maintains a high level of integrity to include privacy of all system requirements.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
- Knowledge of accounting and bookkeeping practices.
- Knowledge of motor vehicle laws.
- Knowledge of property tax laws.
- Skill in performing basic mathematical calculations.
- Skill in the use of such office equipment as a calculator, typewriter, computer, and copier.
- Skill in dealing with the public.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
The Tax Commissioner assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed
work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results
GUIDELINES
Guidelines include state Department of Revenue laws and regulations, county policies and procedures, and
standard accounting practices. These guidelines are generally clear and specific, but require some
interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK
- The work consists of related bookkeeping and clerical duties. The need for accuracy combined
- with frequent changes to regulations contribute to the complexity of the position.
- The purpose of this position is to coordinate accounting functions in support of office operations.
- Successful performance helps ensure that the county properly collects and disburses revenues.
CONTACTS
- Contacts are typically with co-workers, school officials, representatives of city governments,
- elected and appointed officials, and the general public.
- Contacts are typically to give and exchange information, resolve problems, and provide services.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT
- The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or while intermittently sitting, standing, or
- walking. The employee occasionally lifts light objects.
- The work is typically performed in an office.
- Occasional overnight travel may be required
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY
This position has functional supervision over office staff.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized
training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school
education or GED.
- Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to
answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years’ experience
or service in a related field.
- Excellent Customer Service skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Suite
- Ability to pass a criminal background check
