Industrial Controls & Automation Specialist
Job Summary
We are seeking an Industrial Controls & Automation Specialist to build, modify, program, troubleshoot, and commission industrial control panels and automated chemical feed systems. This hands-on position will manage multiple projects simultaneously, from panel fabrication through field startup and customer commissioning.
Key Responsibilities
- Build, wire, test, and troubleshoot industrial control panels from electrical drawings and schematics.
- Modify existing control panels and equipment to accommodate new systems and process requirements.
- Program and troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, instrumentation, pumps, valves, and other automated equipment.
- Commission chemical feed systems and control equipment at customer sites.
- Perform electrical, instrumentation, I/O, and functional testing during startup.
- Troubleshoot equipment and control systems in both shop and field environments.
- Manage multiple chemical feed and controls projects simultaneously, including scheduling, materials, documentation, and project completion.
- Coordinate with engineering, sales, purchasing, fabrication personnel, subcontractors, and customers.
- Maintain accurate electrical drawings, PLC programs, project documentation, and commissioning records.
- Ensure control panels are constructed and documented in accordance with UL 508A, NEC/NFPA, and company requirements.
- Maintain panel quality, labeling, component selection, wiring, grounding, and SCCR requirements.
- Provide customer training and post-startup technical support.
- Travel to customer sites as required for installation, troubleshooting, and commissioning.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience building, troubleshooting, or commissioning industrial control panels or automation systems.
- Ability to read electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and P&IDs.
- Experience with PLCs, HMIs, 24 VDC controls, 4–20 mA instrumentation, VFDs, and industrial electrical systems.
- Allen-Bradley CompactLogix/ControlLogix and Studio 5000 experience preferred.
- UL 508A panel-building experience preferred.
- Strong troubleshooting, organizational, and project-management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and changing priorities.
- Willingness to travel for field commissioning.
- Valid driver's license.
Education
High school diploma or equivalent required. Technical degree, certificate, or formal training in electrical technology, industrial automation, controls, or a related field is preferred.
Work Environment
This position combines control-panel fabrication, programming, testing, office/project coordination, and field commissioning. The employee will work with industrial electrical equipment, pumps, chemical feed systems, instrumentation, and wastewater treatment equipment.
Pay: From $85,000.00 per year
