Job Title: Family Victim Advocate
Reports to: Stepping Stones Child Advocacy Center Director
Position Description:
The grant funded Part-Time Family Victim Advocate role will work with the child victim and the family ensuring that abuse victims receive the most sensitive and humane care during the investigation and prosecution of their cases. Advocacy services seek to provide the victim and family the tools and resources available to resolve the abuse crisis.
The specific Family Victim Advocate duties include, but are not limited to the following:
- Assist families during their initial visit to Stepping Stones Child Advocacy Center.
- Provide ongoing monthly follow-up with families for a minimum of 3 months with a caseload of approximately 60 families.
- Develop and coordinate ongoing support services to be offered through the CAC.
- Accompany the victim and/or family to court, SANE exams, or other activities related to the case as requested and as availability allows.
- Attend MDT meetings
- Attend support group sessions for families
- Monthly data reporting for grants
- Create mental health screen and ensure staff is trained to utilize it
The general duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following:
- Attend conferences, training and supervision as needed to maintain current licensure and meet NCA accreditation standards.
- Demonstrate support of management, mission, values and goals of Stepping Stones CAC.
- Review Stepping Stones CAC protocols annually, updating as needed to comply with membership agencies and getting signatures on the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) as new agreements are made, leadership changes and/or protocol changes are made.
- Represent the Child Advocacy Center in related activities including fundraising initiatives and community outreach.
- Perform other tasks and responsibilities as requested to assist with the everyday functioning of the Stepping Stones CAC.
- Participate in community outreach and educational services, including Child Abuse Prevention Month activities.
- Promote teamwork while collaborating with other office/agency staff members to achieve the best resolutions.
- Provide orientation to each new MDT member to the CAC process and procedures and provide training to these individuals.
Qualifications:
Minimum qualifications include a Baccalaureate degree in social work, human services, or a related field. Any combination of education and life experience, which would demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to perform the duties of the position. Experience in social service agency, court related environment, or advocacy work is preferred. In addition to the above-mentioned minimum requirements, advocates must possess reliable transportation, appropriate vehicle insurance, and a valid driver’s license.

- Ability to organize, plan, and implement activities appropriate to further program goals;
- Good oral and written communication, observation, behavior documentation and community liaison skills.
Other Requirements
- Must be at least twenty-one years of age;
- Successful completion of the following: 1) FBI Criminal Records Check; 2) DCF Child Abuse & Neglect Registry Check; 3) Offender Registration Check;
- Provision of three professional references from persons unrelated to the applicant; Completion of an in person interview.
